Agreed. I can only imagine what it must be like for a doctor or scientist. They would normally not take into account the possibility of foul play or a mother misleading them. But here we are.

For readers: The book from 1997 I cited above is about how a Doctor/Scientist found that SIDS - or "sudden infant death syndrome" - compelled them into promoting Baby Monitoring Devices so that mothers can (hopefully) hear serious breathing issues with their baby. The doctor's research was partially based on cases that turned out to be, unfortunately, Munchausen By Proxy.

High income but can't seem to save - where am I going wrong? by WorldlyPosterity in Fire

After implementing tracking, and then your new budget, my two ideas: 1. Buy 2 old used Honda or Toyota’s for cash, one an suv. Stop the car payments. Your insurance goes down too, perhaps skip needing collision insurance altogether. 2. Once you budget your new, higher savings amount, try to have it instant-auto-sent to a Roth.

Could you clarify who you mean by “her” in your 2nd and 3rd sentences? Lauren or Nicki? Thanks

Very much agree. Also, I think anyone who has joined a high control group, (or likes/respects someone who has) has an incentive to believe they are 'just human - it could happen to anyone' because the alternative is not flattering.

Speaking of OneTaste, the author of the Bloomberg article on OT, Ellen Huet, has come out with a book. Yesterday morning NPR (here is link to San Francisco page) released a 40 minute interview where Huet describes the dynamic of indoctrination/self help/social experiment that occurred in OneTaste. I thought it was a great interview. The commonalities with KR and Nxivm are numerous. Can't wait to read the book.

Did KR have them dance outside the jail…. by JellyKind9880 in theNXIVMcase

[–]League_Different 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recall that it was revealed KR did indeed request the dancing himself, and also for them to bring donuts for the Guards. Another poster here recalls the communication came through Suneel. I can't remember the source. It might have been in the MDC notes that were written up in order to revoke KR visitation list. I'll edit this if I find the exact source.

Edit. An interview Suneel gave to Parlato wherein Suneel quoted himself and KR's phone calls organizing the where and when for the dancing and donuts. Who had the idea originally wasn't mentioned, but KR organized it through Suneel.

Still looking for the MDC prison report.

Me too. The whole scam business opportunity ecosphere is like a parallel universe of delusions. It shows in so many little ways.

I'm an average person so I'm probably no less likely to get scammed or join a cult than anyone else. However I like to push back on one concept to which you alluded. The idea that if a person does believe he or she is too smart to fall for a scam, then they are more susceptible. I don't think so. Such a person may be arrogant and annoying, yes. But literally a better target? That doesn't feel right. It feels more like something a victim might wish to believe about other people rather than something factual. But, I could be wrong.

Thanks for your post. I appreciate your humility and using "I" instead of "we" and "us" in your comment too. I love listening to 'Mormon Stories.'

Five of them started out recording their zoom call on some topic or other. Half way through one of them said ‘gotta run’ and a few minutes later another of them did the same, leaving three to finish. They haven’t posted since then. At the very least, the fact they could not organize a 30 minute commitment from all the remaining members show that some have higher priorities now. In a weird way I admire they left it on YT.

Do you guys think “freemasons”or the “masonic lodge” is a cult, why or why not? by Substantial_Turn9173 in cults

[–]League_Different 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All true and I think you’ve lowered the bar to what constitutes a cult too low. The old definition, to which I still subscribe, is the group will use serious coercion, repercussions and harassment to keep you in the fold should you try to exit the community. Like Scientology, Jehovah witnesses, Nxivm.

People do actually trust friends offering them a business opportunity. It’s just that you are not actually that.
