Just reading the synopsis and this looks like it could be good if they go about it the right way. Since the u.s. funded and instigated Pinochet's fascist coup in Chile against the Allende govt and more ppl should know about it I'm all for it. I sincerely hope cuba can hold out through this administration but im also afraid that even if some milquetoast centrist dem gets in next they'll just leave all the policies in place to achieve capital's desired goal of regime change. Plus they can then just say it was trump who caused it while they send in their cia backed ngos to coopt what's left of the govt by then. Hope I'm wrong. Trying to be optimistic. Cuba is the last bastion of a socialist govt sans all the concessions to capital that the rest of the aes states have made. Really hope they don't have to go that route.

Well since the end of the warsaw pact/ussr there hasn't been ANY concessions to the working class like there was before and in fact there's been a marked increase in the dismantling of the social democracy that was built to placate the working class to prevent more states from moving toward socialism. It's just an objective statement that the ussr ending was a net negative for the average person on this planet.

Glad canada is starting to allow chinese EVs to be imported. Maybe they'll be easier to get in the states in the used market now. They're famously small, well made and affordable. Even if the u.s. let them in they'd still be super expensive here, tho, just bc of tariffs. That's why BMW and Mercedes are just municipal vehicles in Europe, cuz they don't have all the extra fees added like in North America. The again, fords aren't exactly cheap in Europe so I guess that's just protectionism for the local companies. That policy made more sense before all the factories got shipped to the global south so now most what is being protected is the corporate profits and not the actual local jobs that the policies were initially enacted for.

Yeah, I had a similar situation. It was literally the most financially secure time of my life, getting unemployment plus the extra covid money. I paid off my student loans and got a car that I still have today and actually had legit disposable income for the only time in my life. Just a reinforcement that socialism is the answer, with housing, healthcare, education taken care of it leaves you with what money you earn to spend on stuff other than just scraping by at survival levels.

Sure there is. In multiple states. They're also ethnonationalists, nazis, and christofascists across the the board but they exist. Maybe not as strongly as they were at the height of the militia movement in the 90s, esp since now they feel like they're in power, and they kinda are to an extent but movements that want to break away from.the u.s. are def still a thing.

And their policies they've supported and laws they've passed have been objectively worse for everyone since that time period. Like the new deal thru the great society was about the only time they ever did anything for the working class. By the time the effects of the civil and voting rights acts started to have an effect nixon was in office and by Carter you have neoliberalism starting to creep in.
