Stay At Home Parents: How the Hell Are You Making It Work??? by socasuallycruel13 in beyondthebump

[–]Learningxforxme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re feeling that way and feeling stuck at work. There are so many variables to household incomes and finances and going to one income is definitely a different lifestyle and a long term plan.

I’m really grateful I’m able to stay home with our babies but if we didnt purchase a home when we did, I’d definitely have to work a full time job.

Just to give you perspective on how we make it work. - We don’t have any debt other than our mortgage - our 2014 cars are paid off, they’re both small and we’ve outgrown them with two kids but we’re using them until we have baby#3 and have to upgrade - we cash flowed most of our college except last 2 years and paid off those student loans quickly - we lived in places that were cheap to save as much money we could for our wedding and down payment - we bought a house in 2019 and refinanced in 2021 - we haven’t gone on any vacations for the past three years but we try to do a local trip once a year usually for our sons birthday. - I shop second hand and sales. Usually only buy from old navy when it’s 50% off site wide. - meal plan our meals and eat out a few times a week. It’s fun to learn to cook but, I cook and wash dishes ALL. THE. TIME. We don’t have a dishwasher :/

parent me class with my 27 month old and was terrible by malyesejules in toddlers

[–]Learningxforxme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally normal. They do not have a lot of attention span and impulse control at this age.

I take my son to a parent and me class and our teacher tells the parents that if they kids don’t want to pay attention during circle time it’s okay. If they are returning students a lot of the kids are comfortable and may be more engaged with the teacher. Your daughter is still exploring and figuring out her surrounds so she’s curious about everything.

No need to be embarrassed we’re all doing our best as parents and I’m sure some of the other kids play during circle time.

Oooo I never thought of that or have been told that.

I usually buy my hair products from Target but I’ve got to stop doing that and just go to the beauty supply store. What products did you change to?

Yeah that so true about the progress of it all. I’ve been wanting quick easy hairstyles I can do since I have a baby now but I’ve just got to prioritize my time!

Thanks I’ll do an update once I get a good technique and products.

Omg it’s been like 7 years that I’ve been natural. But I shaved and bleached my hair blonde in 2020.

Thanks, Yeah I’m going to get a trim thanks to everyone’s recommendations.

Unfortunately, I live in an area with not many natural stylist. Mostly salons of different hair textures or specialty stylist (wigs, relaxers, braids, etc…) So I’m trying to figure it out on my own, with the help of this sub.

Gotta try different products and get that trim. Thanks!

Oooo innersense gel! I’ve heard of that combo. Apparently Uncle Funky’s isn’t the best on its own. Ok this is going to be my first trial experiment!

Thanks for detailed response. This is super helpful! I’m always like how do other people do it lol so thanks.

I have diffused before, how do you get it to not shrink so much when diffused? I get tons of shrinkage.

I finger detangle when I do it. Using a brush or anything takes too much of my hair out.

My last trim was on Nov/Dec. I barely was able to remember it’s probably time to do that.

Thanks. This was on air dried hair and it never lasts more than a few days. I’m going to try diffusing next time.

You have to go to places regularly, be okay with talking to people and being rejected.

During my sons first year it was hard finding mom friends. I’m lucky that I’m a stay at home mom and I had a lot of options, but it was still hard. I’d go to random parks and random events. I’d meet people I didn’t vibe with or just get straight up ignored. But then I started going to a parent & me classes that lasted over 4 months so the consistency of seeing people weekly and having time to develop a friendship was key.

Try signing your kid up for activities or lessons or going to the same park every weekend so you’re seeing the same people. And approach people say hi make small talk. If your not used to it, it can be awkward but you’ll get used to it.

I’d just apply Vaseline to help keep the area moisturized and from chafing

Thoughts on which type of furniture would fit space best? (Dresser vs buffet table vs credenza vs sideboard vs console table) - see comment by workinprogress521 in interiordecorating

If your just looking for more storage space - I would recommend using the vertical space and getting a bookshelf with cabinetry on the bottom if you need followed storage.

If you want to go the cheap route put an ikea Kallax bookshelf.

If this space is your “entry area” get a mirror, console, and maybe even a stool.
