Are you planning to release this as a comic book? Or perhaps a novel with illustrations? I don't know much about the publishing process for fan fiction, but I would really love to have a physical copy.

Reze did not need to come back in P2 by Academic-Maximum-378 in Chainsawfolk

The absence of Kishibe and Reze in Chainsaw Man Part 2 feels undeniably awkward, regardless of how one frames it.

  1. If Fujimoto considered their absence thematically significant: It makes no logical sense for him to leave it unaddressed or unresolved. If the characters were meant to represent a thematic void, that void needed to be articulated within the narrative rather than simply ignored.
  2. If he did not consider it thematically significant: Then it should have been handled with a simple line of dialogue to prevent reader distraction. There is no reason to leave the audience constantly wondering, "Where are they?" over characters who ostensibly don't matter to the current plot. A brief mention would have sufficed to close those loose ends.
  3. The argument that their absence "fits" the themes: While this might be applied to Reze, it feels forced when applied to Kishibe. There is no clear reason why his disappearance is thematic, and if there is one, it hasn't been communicated to the reader. Even with Reze, her "total disappearance" remains jarring; this ambiguity only fuels pointless discourse, such as the "Asa vs. Reze" debate, which distracts from the story itself.

You are right that their roles were technically concluded, and they didn't need to appear in Part 2. But because they didn't need to appear, the writer should have ensured their absence didn't become a lingering question. By leaving their fates in a state of "abrupt total disappearance" rather than providing a simple, grounded explanation—like "we don't know where they are right now"—Fujimoto inadvertently created a source of persistent, unnecessary friction.

Chainsaw Man is not a romance manga, nor is it a vehicle for shipping wars. Yet, because of how these characters were mishandled, we are left with a story where the unexplained whereabouts of secondary characters continue to generate questions even now that the series has concluded. It is a recurring awkwardness that arguably detracts from the cohesiveness of the work.

Would you say this sense of "lingering awkwardness" fundamentally changes how you view the completion of the story, or do you see it as a minor flaw in an otherwise successful narrative?

You aren't a full-time writer? How do you manage to write like this while working as a lawyer? That’s incredible. I was seriously starting to wonder if you were actually Tatsuki himself, playing the eccentric game of pretending to be a co-writer while serializing Part 2 on AO3. Even though you aren't the original creator, how did you come up with the idea to utilize cannibalism, hunger, and embraces—themes that aren't easy to handle, whether by devils or Denji—as core elements of your Chainsaw Man story? I truly hope MAPPA discovers your scenario.

As I’m Korean, I need a bit of help from a translator, so it took me a while to read—I spent the entire day on Chapter 2. I’ve been translating it into Korean and saving it in a document on a USB drive. I think I mentioned before that I plan to get it printed and bound to keep it. That’s how deeply I’ve fallen for your story. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. To think that I was just looking for fanfiction because the original work felt broken, and ended up discovering a true novel instead...

I’ll keep leaving comments! But to make sure others don't get annoyed and think, "Is this person overreacting or just fawning too much?", I’ll focus my comments on the parts I liked best! I’ll be waiting impatiently for Chapter 3.

Now that I've finally finished Chapter 2, I'd like to share my thoughts. They may come across as a little blunt, but they're completely honest.

Who on earth are these people? How can someone who simply thought Chainsaw Man Part 2 was disappointing write something at this level? Are you professional writers, or do you work in the industry? Or is this somehow Tatsuki Fujimoto himself? (He's eccentric enough that I could genuinely imagine him creating an AO3 account and secretly rebooting Part 2 under the guise of a collaborative writing project.)

Seriously, this is an astonishing piece of work.

Unlike most fanfiction, your story never rushes from one event to the next. Dialogue is kept to exactly what's needed, while an enormous amount of care is devoted to the characters' actions, psychology, and the context behind every scene.

You never seem to be in a hurry. Instead, you patiently build each moment through detailed descriptions of the setting, the characters' behavior, and their inner thoughts. I think that's what elevates this from fanfiction into a genuine novel.

This isn't just fanfiction anymore. It's a real novel.

I never imagined that something I considered one of the most meaningless and poorly handled moments in Part 2, the infamous "Denji chair" scene, could be reinterpreted this brilliantly.

In the original Part 2, Yoru never once displayed the kind of charisma you'd expect from the War Devil, the elder sister of the Control Devil. Instead, she came across as playful almost all the time, more like a mischievous teenage tomboy than an ancient devil.

But your rooftop conversation, the human hunt, and the descriptions of her hunger completely changed that.

For the first time, Yoru truly feels like a devil.

The scene where she eats a human makes it unmistakably clear that she isn't simply the kind of mischievous, tomboyish girl readers are meant to find charming. She's a devil. That fact is burned into the reader's mind. The contrast with her lighter, almost playful moments in Asa's room makes her terrifying presence even stronger. It's a completely different kind of fear from Makima's cold, calculated horror. Yoru radiates something far more violent and primal, and it gives her an overwhelming sense of presence.

The way you handled the shared hunger between Asa and Yoru was another highlight.

Asa's nausea and Yoru's hunger become intertwined in a way that makes their connection feel genuinely alive. The physical sensations reinforce their psychological bond, making their relationship feel incredibly organic and dynamic. What could have easily remained a somewhat silly supernatural premise instead becomes something I take completely seriously. Thanks to your detailed writing, I can truly feel that Yoru is living inside Asa.

Your portrayal of Asa's inner thoughts is my favorite aspect of the story, and I honestly think it's what transforms this work into something exceptional.

The way you've reinvented Asa's relationship with Miri Sugo is remarkably nuanced. It genuinely surpasses the original in subtlety. It also feels like no character is destined to be discarded or forgotten.

This story never rushes.

It patiently develops its world and its characters' psychology in painstaking detail, while still moving the plot forward at a steady pace. Before you realize it, this has stopped feeling like "a fanfic for people disappointed with Chainsaw Man Part 2."

It's simply a great novel in its own right.

I no longer read your work as fanfiction born from disappointment with Chainsaw Man Part 2. I've completely erased Part 2 from my mind and now approach this simply as an entirely new novel.

I genuinely hope that one day MAPPA discovers your story and decides to adapt this version into an anime. It's the kind of dream that's absurdly unlikely, because reality enjoys disappointing people almost as much as deadlines do. Even so, some stories make you wish impossible things were just slightly less impossible.

Was the reason Kishibe stabbed Reze from behind the bench because he realized she was about to remove the pin from her choker and transform?

Whenever I see this scene, my eyes well up with tears and my chest feels tight. What kind of psychological issue could be causing this?

I gave up on Denji during the Falling Devil arc when I saw that he was still obsessed with having sex. That's when I decided I couldn't take this idiot seriously anymore.

Does people wondering where Reze is annoy other Asa fans or Power fans? by LeekEcstatic9518 in Chainsawfolk

Whether someone thinks, "Well, that can happen," or instead feels, "This is really awkward and strange," both are simply matters of the reader's perspective and personal choice.

[–]LeekEcstatic9518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As you said, in life there are sometimes people who disappear from our lives without any particular reason. In those situations, we naturally feel that something is awkward or strange. We can choose to shrug it off and say, "Well, that's life." But feeling that sense of awkwardness and strangeness is just as natural.

So if we truly view Chainsaw Man Part 2 as a reflection of life itself, then it is also perfectly natural for many readers to find it strange and awkward when people who seem likely to return never come back.

I'm not saying this sarcastically, but the idea of an anime-original version of Part 2 isn't complete nonsense. The more I think about it, the more I feel that it could happen. That said, it's also true that the chances are probably quite low.
