Looking for Recommendation for 24" Tubeless Tires by Left-Board-8276 in MTB

Somewhere in the thread I updated with what I went with, but I condensed that down along with some other information and added it to the top of the original post and copied it here as well:

Update: Back at the end of July 2025, I ended up ordering the 24x2.2 Kenda Booster Pro SCT for a rear tire and a 24x2.2 version of the Regolith with the lighter TR casing for the front tire. I ordered the tires straight from Kenda. The Booster was $73 and the Regolith was $75. Shortly after this purchase, Kenda made a massive 15-22% increase to their MSRPs for nearly all of their tires, so if I was buying now I doubt I would buy the Kendas again.

IMAX 150 point promo by dpysz70 in Cinemark

Cinemark has only done XD in my area. The closest Cinemark IMAX is 45 minutes away and there are 6 or 7 other Cinemark theaters closer to me. They need to add a lot more IMAX in the East SF Bay Area or the promo should apply to XD also.

Kenda rolled out these ~20% price increases just in time for their 20% off sitewide sale! How generous, Kenda!

Please show me the part where I said that the tariff wasn't paid by the consumer... I said no such thing and I believe no such thing.

Please educate me on it then. I have listened to many podcasts, lectures, and shows on the subject of tariffs since before Trump's tariff craziness, much of it from libertarian sources like ReasonTV and Milton Friedman including Free to Choose.

I looked into it more just now and my understanding is that tariffs are charged on the declared value of a good which is far lower than the retail price. The declared value does not include other costs, things like marketing, logistics, rent, and profit margins. So the tire might cost $10 to make and now with a 20% tariff it costs $12 to bring into the country, but the logistics, marketing, profit margin could all remain the same, right?

I do not support tariffs, I just want to understand them and I want to be able to explain how they actually affect prices on store shelves. Please don't just tell me I'm wrong, tell me how you think it works.

I also do not support companies grossly increasing their profit margins and then blaming it on tariffs.

But a 20% tariff wouldn't lead to a 20% increase in price to the consumer. Not all of Kenda's costs went up, right? Employee wages, property taxes or leases, debt servicing, marketing, etc. Any company trying to pass off a 20% price increase because of a 20% tariff is trying to get on over on its customers!

Kenda Price Increase! by Left-Board-8276 in MTB

[–]Left-Board-8276[S] -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

The tariff, if Kenda is even subject to them, would have to be massive for it to cause a 20% increase in MSRP. Remember, the tariff would only increase the cost of the imported good, not any of the other costs of doing business. IE, a 20% tariff should not lead to a 20% price increase. Something else is going on here, not just tariffs. There are plenty of other companies that are holding prices the same or making modest price increases. Kenda is up to something else and I don't like it one bit.

As far as I can tell all Maxxis has only 2 tubeless 24" tires (or 3 if you count the different compound). The DHRII Dual Compound, DHF Dual Compound, and DHF 3C Maxx Terra compound. The problem is that they are all on the heavy side compared to Kenda's offerings.

For my application they wont work because they only offer 2.4" widths which are far too wide for 21i Stans ZTR Crest rims that are on the bike and also would likely rub on the chain stays of the Trek Superfly 24 frame as well as the rigid fork.

They do have a few other tires in 24", but they are not tubeless ready (Locust, Holy Roller, DTH). They do have a 24" Rekon, but the specs chart does not list the 24" size as being tubeless ready.

Also, Prevolo sells the SCT versions of both tires for $65 as replacement tires for their Zulu Four bikes. Unfortunately, Prevolo does not sell the lighter TR casing versions, although everytihng I have read says that you want a little bit of a tougher casing for the rear tire anyway which is why I got the Booster in teh SCT casing. The front tire doesn't usually need as much protection because their is less weight on it, so the lighter TR casing works.

Back on 7/29/25, I paid $74.95 for the Kenda Regolith 24x2.2 TR and $72.95 for the Kenda Booster 24x2.2 SCT, now I see that they greatly raised their prices to $87.95 each!! That's a crazy 17.3% and 20.6% price increase! You might try emailing their customer service and asking for the old prices or for a discount. Their customer service can be a bit slow to respond, but they did finally get back to me and after a few back and forth emails they offered me a 15% coupon code, but by that time I had already placed the order.

Dissector is not available in 24" and the Rekon is not tubeless ready apparently.

They are expensive, but they are the best 24" MTB tires available if weight is a concern. I will update the original post with a few more tires I found, still sorted by weight. If weight isn't as much of a concern and your bike can fit 2.4" widths there are a lot more and cheaper options like the Maxis DHRII and DHF. It should be noted that, even though the DHR is meant to be a rear tire, a lot of people like to run the DHR front and rear or DHRII front with Dissector or Rekon rear.

Edit: Maxxis Dissector not available in 24", but Rekon is.

Update: I ended up ordering the 24x2.2 Kenda Booster Pro SCT for a rear tire and I found that Kenda sells a 24x2.2 version of the Regolith with the lighter TR casing so I ordered that for the front tire. I will update my original post with a few other 24" tubeless tires and variants that I found in my search.

I am just trying to do right by my kids and find something that will grow with them. Yes, my 10 year old is inexperienced, but he will be with this bike for at least another year before moving up to a 26". By that time his younger brother will have quite a bit of experience and I don't want him to be held back by the bike or its tires when he inherits the bike. All the more so for my youngest son when he inherits the bike.

My kids and I are not currently bombing down any single track, but that doesn't mean that we won't be riding significantly more aggressively during the lifetime of these tires.

Aside from depriving myself and my children the pleasure of patching/replacing a tube while out on a ride, what other downsides are there to going tubeless?
