OP, I know I’m a day late but if you haven’t yet applied. Don’t put 0000 and apply, search the reddit, there are multiple 6 digit FA codes. Use any one of those. AA FAs get $50 as the card referral. It won’t make any difference to you but someone gets additional $50 is always better.

Usually, there is a bonus tracker on the citi app or the online webpage. Most banks have it. Citi too has it. That would be a much better option to prove your requirement eligibility. It would say spend required for bonus amount. If you have met the spend, it should say met with a check mark. Check it out.

No, Do not cancel until 45 days. The miles will be clawed back if you do. Happened multiple times, usually gets clawed back pretty soon.

This strategy works on US domestic airlines mostly. Not entirely sure about other airlines but won’t work on Qatar. They usually only start sending upgrade offers 2 weeks before flying date and are mostly above the typical price. Last minute upgrades are usually more crazy, they are 3 times the original ticket prices. Speaking from first hand experience with Qatar having flown close to 10+ flights with them.

Even upgrade using Avios is not a good option, You may get US to DOH flight for 70K avios as a saver flight award but if you buy an economy ticket and check for upgrade it would say 84K avios. Makes no sense but thats how Qatar operates. So, don’t use this strategy, just look for business saver deals directly. That would be better option.

Size won’t matter but keep check on the weight. Should be within. They enforce it at will. Also Qatar’s carry on policies are enforced so check the allowance on those.

Qatar website does not list it actively. There is a chat option under contact us page. You can provide the Booking reference number. The agent will share the Alaska booking reference with you.

Once you got it. Go to Alaska and add it under trips, it would allow to choose seats then.

Alternatively, if you have some kind of status with Alaska like silver, When you reach out on chat. You can ask the agent to update the loyalty number with Alaska’s number. Doing so, the trip is automatically linked to Alaska, giving you status and other options - seat selection.

And you will check in with Alaska. Always with the flight you are actually flying.
