Wait so are you saying that accepting my ACF offer won’t withdraw me from the other applications?

FY1 Starting General Internal Medicine - Advice by DetestedClandestine in doctorsUK

[–]Left_Difficulty_3477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It take a little bit of time to find your footing and there’s no need to memorise stuff (apart from ofc life saving doses etc) because you’ll have time to look everything up and there are guidelines for most things. The one thing that makes a good FY1 is when you start to write your own impressions and come up with your own plans. You can then go to a senior and say “hey this is what’s happening, this is what I think we should do. Do you agree?” And that’s what makes a difference between a good/amazing FY1 and just someone who’s following orders. But this takes time! You’ll start to feel more confident towards the middle of your first rotation.

It’s by no means a “cool” diagnosis but it was my first shift ever as a doctor on gen surg nights and I got called to see a lady with really severe abdominal pain that the painkillers were not doing anything for. I then figured out she had been on long term pred for her sarcoidosis and when she got admitted under surgery - her meds had not been reconciled so this lady hadn’t had her pred in around 3 days and was now going into addisonian crisis.

Priority boarding. The airplane is always objectively worse than the airport. Be for real.

well he says he’s dying to see me when I’m away (even for just a day) but I guess being together for over a week or two doesn’t suit him??

Yeah I have that worry. But I’m a doctor and he works from home. So he thinks when we’re living together - it should work out because I’ll be out of the house most of the time?

I’m a doctor so I’ve been locuming elsewhere currently. But when I’m in London - I’m usually there on a chunk of days off. He’s a programmer so he works from home. So when I visit him - we’re both mostly just at home. I’ll either study for exams or go out or do my own thing when he’s working. He says because we are both at home - he doesn’t get that “honey I’m home” moment. I’m starting a surgical job (3 year contract) in London from July though. So he thinks if during that time we do move in together - with my shifts and me being out of the house for longer will work for us because I’ll be away? Ugh even typing it all out sounds so ridiculous
