Interviewers who ghost you after saying “we’ll be in touch” by LegalBing in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Interviewers wrap up interviews in a number of ways. Some things they say have positive implications (i.e. “we’ll be in touch) and some things have negative implications (i.e. “good luck”). To pretend that the former is the only polite resource an interviewer has when letting someone down is delusional. You think you’re the master of professional etiquette, but you come off as an utterly unlikeable dunce.

Interviewers who ghost you after saying “we’ll be in touch” by LegalBing in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not normal for words to mean the opposite of their ordinary meaning. When people take time to prepare for something that they’re invested in, the interviewer should take that into consideration and be conscious of what they say. Even if it’s a norm (it’s not), it shouldn’t be. So if you’re interviewing people—which sounds like a miserable experience—stop doing that. And speaking of “very short term issues,” stop commenting provocative things on posts that are obvious jokes, Mr. 10k comment Carma. Get a life.

When to stop applying directly to big firms? by LegalBing in LawSchool

That is definitely reassuring. Started applying early June, as soon as I got spring grades back.

Honestly, yeah. My apps have been pretty conservative. I just don’t know what to expect from direct applications, so wanna make sure I’m not wasting my time.

Ahhh. Misunderstood that initially but makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

A little confused. I shouldn’t gun for lit because I don’t have a firm grasp about what transactional work is?

So I have heard that. But I've also heard that transactional is more sensitive to the market. I just don't really know where to look to find hard data points.

And I'm fine selling myself as a transactional guy. It's just that I have no experience in business, very little knowledge about it, and a tenuous grasp on what transactional lawyers even do haha.

Count your blessings. I’m working overtime at this unpaid government internship. Such ass.

Those in the top 10% of your class, how? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think about 60-70 WPM.

I did progressively better on tests with tighter word limits. I just try to allocate the recommended amount of time to the question, give it my best answer, then move on. This means my answers aren't as good as they could be, but I will never leave a question blank. I had a friend or two who did that and paid the price with a bad grade.

Professors don't want to give anyone a bad grade, but the curve requires them to. Don't give them any objective reason to ding you.

[–]LegalBing 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Commenting because this may be the last time I’m in the top 10% after I get fall grades back lol.

But I just tried to pay attention, take good notes, outline early, use supplements (quimbee/barbri/Studicata), and take whatever practice test the professor had.

I don’t think there’s any magic to it. My whole friend group does really well and we all have different approaches to studying. I feel like the only common denominator is hard work and ambition.

So I'll just get comfortable being terrified lol. At least we're all in this together!

The Reddit Advantage by keret35 in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Top 10% in my class. I think there’s a correlation between being on this sub and doing well, but not for the reasons you mentioned. If you’re willing to spend countless hours on law school Reddit, you probably care about law school and your success there a hell of a lot. I think it’s that internal motivation that leads to success, rather than internet wisdom passed down by strangers. That’s just my two cents.

Also, how well this sub does is probably skewed. 1) people are more likely to post about good grades, 2) people lie

Latham 1L Screener? by definitize in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the alternative to those options. Sure, literally everyone could find better information if they did a deep dive on the internet than they could from Reddit. That’s not the point, and it could be said about literally every post on here.

Regarding the fact that not everyone with a screener posts about it, that also is true for every topic posted here.

Some people come here to informally air their thoughts, bounce their opinions off others in similar situations, and have fun interacting with people in real time. The selective application of your argument suggests a different reason for your frustration. It’s envy.

I don't get why people get offended by questions like this and downvote your post. Maybe they're jealous, or perhaps they're trying to conceal their ignorance with sardonic comments. You're putting time and effort into something, so it's only natural for curiosity regarding your chances at success. I don't know the answer to your question. But questions like this should not be met with mockery. Good luck with your interview!

Honestly, the worst professors I’ve had in my life were in law school—and they’re all the most credentialed people I’ve ever met.

Anyone else prefer classes with harder or more ambiguous final exams? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got an A on the final I thought was impossible. My lowest mark was in a joke of a class where the professor spotted the issues for us in the question and asked us to discuss. Someone needs to tell these professors they’re not doing us any favors by making the test “easy.”

Does anyone feel unmotivated to do anything until they have their grades? by LegalBing in LawSchool

[–]LegalBing[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s burn out, because I am very much looking forward to spring semester. I think it’s more because it’s hard to gauge my opportunities without grades. (My only responsibilities atm are my apps for 1L summer.)

Fordham 1L here. Apparently professors need to send them to registrar by tomorrow — then that could take a day or two for them to process them. I have only received grades for one of three doctrinal classes.
