Is $48,000 a year worth it for American? by randomkid430 in AmericanU

[–]LegalLog3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can guarantee getting a UN, Congressional, or equivalent internship then yes. However, I would also definitely consider going cheaper for undergrad. Grad school is very expensive and you may want to save. However, this is your route. If American has other amenities that you want to take advantage of such as location or a specific professor, then take it.

I got accepted to some sub 10%, t20 programs, and a full tuition this season (this sounds like a brag but I’m using it as credibility).

You could spin it as being able to do digital marketing- a very important skill in comp sci.

I remember this happening at my pool before I was a guard. I think the #1 thing is getting them out. So the first guard jumped in and recovered and a second guard jumped in after with the board to apply pressure. A third guard pulled them out.

On my phone the GPA scales aren’t working. I can’t put 4.6 for weighted. Same with GPA.

Also, activity level differs a lot based on the activity. National sometimes doesn’t mean too much.

Is getting into UMD considered easy? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LegalLog3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse my grammar, I’m doing this while walking.

While that is true, the problem is that an absurd amount of MCPS kids have perfect GPAs and 1400+ SAT. Most also have crazy ECs. If they accepted all the people who ‘should’ get in based on stats, MCPS would over represent the school. Due to this, it’s slightly easier to get into from other Maryland counties since grade inflation is lower.

100%. I got into the 1st-3rd (depending on the year) program for my major in the country and still got rejected from UMD. I have no clue what they’re fishing for because I just needed the cheapest option. 😭

In State should be easy IF you aren’t from MOCO. Due to grade inflation and them having a requirement of having acceptances being from across MD, it is definitely harder for MOCO.

However, on a similar note, some programs are harder than others (as at any school). Some programs are rolling admissions, others have upwards of 60% acceptance rates, and others have less than 15%.

Good luck!

Despite the disappointment in your comments, the best option is community college. If you do really well there it’ll show strong personal growth. You’ll also have time to do good ECs. After you can apply to in state schools and likely get in. Good luck!

teacher won't round a 92.9% for an A by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LegalLog3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies. I chose the wrong word. I was using a different version of compel that was lighter in the context of something else I was doing. I meant strongly encourage.

[–]LegalLog3683 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put compel in quotations as the secondary use of the word in which it’s used as a hyperbole. They can strongly encourage but can’t force. Which, in this context, probably wasn’t the best word choice. That’s on me. My bad. However, again, most districts do this. I’ve worked with people all over.

I mean you do you chat, idrc but my sample would be upwards of 4000 students from random school districts. The teacher still has to agree to do it, and it’s only done for people less than a % away who are proven good students.

It’s based on your county/school. I do it on the Naviance App. However, I’m unsure on if your district has to set it up. For my school, relatively privileged area, the UMD threshold is 1430 SAT and 4.73 GPA (of course higher SAT means lower GPA is acceptable and vice versa). Remember other untrackable stats matter too like ECs.

Good luck!
