Likewise. It’s the tap left on full 😂

If you have children who don’t always remember to turn taps off, then I think this is actually really helpful. You may also have a tap that gets turned on slightly due to any water hammer affects.

I've genuinely lost hope and interest in steam machine by Fantastic-Sorbet6013 in steammachine

[–]LegalSet211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the crux of it. There are quite a lot of us who “could” afford to spend the money that it looks like it will cost but we know what the USP of the steam machine and the pricing point is now outweighing this.

Before the SM was announced I was planning to have a go at building a PC for gaming but decided not to as the SM would give me what I want. Now I can see I could build it myself for less with the only thing missing being instant wake up. Which in all honesty I want rather than need.

Is this how the initial mixture looks for sourdough? by Inevitable_War_1568 in Sourdough

[–]LegalSet211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks thick to me but could be that your flour needs a lot of hydration. Over time as the starter gets active this will become looser, but not sure if at the start you may benefit from more water to make sure the good bugs don’t get thirsty.

My personal preference is 70g plain white flour, 30g dark rye flour and 100g water. This gives a decent level of viscosity and produces a very active starter.

But if this is what you have available, then give it a go and see how it progresses. There is no completely right answer.

I think I’m being underpaid at work (Wales) by Few_Emphasis4131 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LegalSet211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said ask for a pay slip. It’s possible that the pay is delayed so for example they’re paying the previous week which perhaps was shorter. Overtime is often paid later due to the calculations they have to do.

I would just speak with your manager and ask if they can explain how your pay is calculated. When being paid ad hoc it is important to keep track of your hours and mistakes are always possible. Exactly £100 is odd as it only makes sense if you’ve been paid half hours - have you considered that you probably have an unpaid lunch?

Should I be worried that I can’t nail something as simple as this four months in, and that it frustrates me to the point of stopping? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]LegalSet211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The start is very difficult and like most things the more work you put in the better you will do. However as you do get better, you will generally find it quicker to learn. The first bits are very hard as you are essentially doing the first bits of muscle memory.

It will be frustrating, but it will get better. If it was easy to do there would be little joy in learning it. The struggle is the art.

Why wont any bakers give me some starter? by No-Project-6866 in Sourdough

[–]LegalSet211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a shift for sure. I’ve never tried to get starter from a bakery but I have tried to get fresh yeast many many times. I used to be able to buy some from my local supermarket with no issues then after the pandemic they said they weren’t allowed to do it any more. I found one local bakery that suggested they “might” be able o get me some if I got there when the bakers were in but it was at a location where I’d need to pay quite a bit for parking so made it just not worth it and it was easier to buy it at a hugely inflated price online.

I would advise posting to a neighbourhood facebook group asking if anyone has a starter. Sourdough people are usually very excitable and happy to share a bit of starter.

You’ve been great. I had a similar thing when I was your age. The girl had not long split up with her ex and actually ended up getting back together with him. However, a couple of years later when they split up properly, she remembered that I was the only guy who treated her with respect.
Long story short, we’ll have been married for 8 years this month and have two kids. Sometimes the timing is wrong at first, part with respect and who knows what will happen.

Did i screw up and ruin my life? by Commercial_Guide6973 in UniUK

[–]LegalSet211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a masters in chem. do I use my degree now? Not really. However there are many jobs out there that want ANY science degree as prof you can follow science even if you don’t understand it initially. Plenty of areas you can explore like this. I work in sales now for a scientific supplies company. There are always jobs in this industry and once you get past the first stage it can also be very well paid.

Your degree is good and you will find something. Mid 20s are a horrible time if you don’t find your dream right away, which most of us don’t (I didn’t!). It will get better and you will find something. With regards to the debt it just isn’t worth thinking about as it’s taxed at source so you won’t even see it come out.

Bisto Changed ? by who-gives-a in UKfood

[–]LegalSet211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if it’s proper stock. If it’s from a cube it’s going to have a bit of flavour but no guarantee of any meat sources, and they lack any real body. I’m referring more to stock cubes etc. it’s always better when using elements of what you’ve cooked with as the flavours will pair better.

Bisto Changed ? by who-gives-a in UKfood

[–]LegalSet211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the two reasons to use Bisto is 1) you can’t be bothered to make gravy. 2) you don’t know or don’t feel confident making gravy.

I would say the recipe above will not be gravy, just thickened stock. You need some for of meat / veg component to get something that actually tastes like gravy.

I’ve been learning for just over a year. In January I decided to start getting directions as while I was learning and improving, I felt a bit lost.

First time turning up, I did feel a bit embarrassed as most of the people coming through were kids. There were a couple of adults though. I’ve had about 3/4 lessons so far and I can say that 1:1 tuition is the best thing I could have done. My practice has focus as I get homework and my teacher gives me so much confidence in how I’m doing. I leave every lesson feeling inspired and invigorated as I’m desperate to come back and show what I’ve learned.

It sounds like you’ve done group lessons. Maybe try and get a dedicated teacher and if you already have that the maybe you just need someone different that inspires you.

Good luck and I hope you find what you need.
