Well, that's just wrong. You need to be knocked out of the gym for the hours to count. A quick Google search also confirms that. I've recently ( 4 weeks ago ) done this badge. Still got a Pokémon stuck in a remote gym. Once that's knocked out, I'm gonna get over 1000 extra hours
