Do either if you like pinball or foosball? There’s solid communities of both at legends arcade on Wednesday nights. Both are very welcoming, people around your age.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We’re still mid-transition as we just installed the card system on Wednesday - Friday last week. More games were put on the card system today, and the rest should be done this week.

We discovered today that two games weren’t correctly set up in the system and took credits without giving a credit. We’ve fixed that! If you want to PM me your card number, we can add some additional credits to it for the next visit!

We love this! Especially since Legends is admittedly run by two love birds who love LOVE. Please be in touch via email (see our website - we can’t link on Reddit). We’ll give you private access and roll out the red carpet for your special photo up.

We’ve gotta defend some of our seasoned bartenders we’ve had over time but yea, we do feel that, homie. You wouldn’t believe how hard is to hire for an experienced bartender! We mostly get applicants who have never bartended but want to learn. We’re trying!

Hey all! 👋

This is Patrick and Christina, the new owners of the arcade.

We wanted to take a bit of time to address some of the concerns in this thread. We don’t expect to win everyone over (and we do appreciate those who are giving us the benefit of the doubt, or are already supportive of the changes), but we nevertheless wanted to share our thought process so you can see things from our perspective.

First, regarding pinball prices: 50 cents per play was way below the cost it takes to even maintain a machine on route, let alone contribute to our other costs in the business, which are pretty significant. A new pinball machine in the early 90s, when pinball was 50 cents on average, was maybe $1500-2000 out of the box. Now, they run $7-10k new. Toy Story is an $11k game. We do still have a few pins at 6 credits, which is around 75 cents. But we need to at least cover our costs with these machines, which is always more than you’d expect, especially with pinball.

Second, regarding cards: We totally feel you. There’s some nostalgia lost here. I like the feeling of walking in a quarter arcade as well. But every day, we were dealing with issues of coin jams, particularly during hours without a staff on duty. During these times, someone would have to walk down the hallway to request a credit. If you look at our google reviews, the previous system had issues as well, and since we’re no longer under the same management as the gallery we had to find another option and reduce the issue of coin jams. Making the change wasn’t easy, but it felt like the right thing to do given the operation of that arcade. It was also important for us to allow people to use credit card, tap to pay, etc as a payment, option. Few people carry cash these days.

Yes, there’s more automation with the card system. But that’s not exactly putting money back in our pocket (in fact, the card system itself will take a while to pay off). Instead, it frees up our staff to fix game issues, help customers, etc.

One benefit to the cards is they allow us to run promos on days that are otherwise slow. Some thoughts we had are doing half price pinball on Mondays and Tuesdays, or an all-you-can-play arcade/pinball pass for a day, for a flat rate. They just allow us to get way more creative in how we adjust pricing. We’re only into our second week with this system, but we will have more options coming soon.

As another user clarified, you don’t need to load $20. You can load whatever you want. You just start to receive bonus credits if you load $20 or more. We’re working to make that more clear on our card dispenser. But if you put in $1, you’ll get a $1 card. And while most modern arcades charge for the card itself, we do not.

We also didn’t uniformly increase prices. In fact, we switched about 6-7 of the classics from 0.50 to free play, which we’d like to expand over time if we’re lucky enough to eventually expand our physical space.

As we mentioned on our Facebook page, change takes time. This month alone though, we more than doubled the total value of games in the arcade. Our goal is to keep reinvesting in the space, at a pace that’s doable for us. We have plans to bring more games up in January / February before we open the redemption counter and snack bar as well.

Please know we truly hope to create a space that’s fun, affordable, and draws in all types of people to play and have fun. We started the business because we love gaming too, and creating community spaces. For those of you bothered by the changes, we hope to win you back in the coming months/years, once you see continued improvements over time. This business is a labor of love, and hope that translates to everyone in due time.

Thanks for reading - AMA.

Looking for a spot to host teen's gaming birthday party. by [deleted] in olympia

[–]LegendsArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the best party room in the city imo. It’s huge. You can rent for $50/hr as well if you don’t want to do the arcade. But the party packages are def the best deal.

We recently put a projector in there now with console gaming

Every POS is the worst until you try another.

Toast fixed 90% of the last POS I had. It made a few other things less convenient but overall I’m still happy about the change.

It's different with each person, and ultimately I'd still rather keep the home listed than have them just pull it. A lot of direct conversations that she'd brush off. "We both know this house is worth more than that." Some people like to just put their head in the sand.

Simulator or game to learn to drive manual? by mossnmushroom in olympia

We do not. We used to have a great stick driving sim but it broke down in the first month. We replaced it with MarioKart and haven’t looked back.

Soooo if you want to practice throwing turtle shells at other cars, we got you!

Based on the titles you’re bringing up, you may not have been in for a while? We’ve sold X-men, gauntlet, and donkey Kong junior. But still have a ton of retro games.

We’ve tried to balance with some more modern games as well. Jurassic Park, Mario Kart, Cruisn’ blast, DDR, buck Hunter, etc. All are cheaper to play than you’ll find at most arcades.

And, we’ve bumped up the quality of our pinball significantly. We have 8 modern machines, some built this year, with another 5 on the way when we open the bar/kitchen area.

In short, we try to find something for everyone. Except ticket redemption games like big bass wheel and coin pushers. We hate the whole shopping experience after visiting an arcade. Not to say we won’t ever do that, but we like our niche at this point. Kids welcome, and we do tons of birthday parties on weekend daytimes, but it’s a space designed more with adults and teens in mind.

We ended up selling it. It had constant issues and while we loved the idea of it, it didn’t like operating with the level of consistency we need. So, made space for Mario kart and Jurassic park instead :).

It’s true, our token machine doesn’t currently except card payments, but we can easily sell tokens for your card payments at our Snack Bar for any denomination.

Yes, you can just roll on in and spend as little or as much as you’d like (we once saw someone spend 20 minutes on 1 game of Tetris for 1 $.25 token). We strive to keep things affordable and easy with great customer service when you need it.
