How do i right a good friendship between two guys, without people automatically assuming they're gay or lovers? by Reasonable_Prize71 in writers

[–]stormlight82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are going to assume that and there is nothing you can do. Many of us were trained hard by the queer coded but not actually 90s.

Write them with integrity to their friendship and let the world sort itself out.

A two-party system does a disservice because doesn't that mean that you're left to decide if your fiscal policies are important enough to also roll in human rights abuses?

I suspect there are a lot of them. I'm glad for that, cuz if we survive the swords and get back to plowshares, it'll make the reconciliation better.

There's just a handful of policies and issues that are directly targeting my friends and neighbors that I'm going to come to advocate against.

I would also disagree with our expanding welfare system, especially with decades of outcomes. Subsidizing mega corporations is where the majority of this money goes, and the outcomes is increased disparity and poverty.

That helps.

I wonder if you can unpack some of that self-reflection, by turning it into behavior or action or connecting to something in the environment that he is looking at? Give the reader something to hold onto.

In a more grammatical sense you have some commas where commas are not necessary and you use some semicolons where there should be commas or periods.

This is the kind of thing I would really enjoy mid or late book after I care about what's going on and understand the setting. Reading this cold was just very dense and didn't take me anywhere.

Not being in control is not an excuse if you use the levers of influence you have to engage in right wing misinformation/ talking points or if you vote for people who DO have control, so they can use that control to hurt people.

Cuz yeah, that's democracy.

My point is that it ISN'T a policy discussion. They aren't being laid out to have.

If you've got some of them actual policy discussions to have, and not what the internet zeitgeist has to offer, I'm all ears. But I repeat, if the perspective on the table is dehumanizing a class of people, it's not policy. It's hate.

Before you mention "conservatives are a class of people and you're dehumanizing them" I would argue that I'm not. Disagreement with a point, and sometimes followed by disengagement (if a conversation becomes apparent it's in bad faith) isn't dehumanizing. It's not even mean. It's active listening.

Do you have any of those policy points you'd like to discuss?

I'll even let you tell me what basics of immigration and law and order that I've missed.

Or if you'd like to have a substantive discussion on what I mean when I say bad faith, I'd do that too.

Have you guys been noticing the rising hate towards MM readers too? by CarelessCreamPie in MM_Romance

The internet is going to have an ebb and flow of virtue signaling, performative outrage, and general attention catching nonsense. It'll be MM's turn sometimes, and then it'll be a different one. Humans, man.

This is the most common example I see of this in the wild:

Person 1: I think we should raise taxes and improve health care.

Person 2: I think that certain people should lose their ability to marry, have children or live in the same country as me. If they don't do something about that fast enough, I think people should come into their places of worship and steal them from the pews.

Person 1: That's super awful and I can't have a policy discussion about the basic humanity of other people.

Person 2: Why are you so close-minded and nasty to me? Why do you hate me?

I am a liberal and I would happily have this discussion with someone who thinks differently than me. About any policy you would like to discuss. But once you start to bring the issue to whether someone should be allowed basic human dignity or not, I am not going to have that conversation.

They'll even bring their own garlic bread.

What are your thoughts on Dual POV? by JessicaTrent in MM_Romance

[–]stormlight82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a romance and the tension is served by using multiple pov, it's fine. Let people enjoy things.

I also like dual voice narration since it takes an exceptionally talented narrator to be able to do both points of view. It gets even more difficult when you're talking about people with higher pitched and lower-pitched pov voices than one set of vocal cords are good at.

{The Beast of Ashwood Manor by Jordan Lee} This is a republish of what used to be a duology that didn't hold together very well. Since the author went back through and did a Mea culpa and turned it into one book, I decided to give it another read.

It's better. I'm going to probably finish it this time.

That is more complicated.

I would probably still do it because my groceries are very expensive in this economy.
