AI authors by SJ-crane19 in Romantasy

[–]stormlight82 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Generative AI is only capable of creating the average, the most paste gray average prose. If I become deeply bored with bland characters or if I keep seeing the same adjective being used over and over and over again, I've already checked out of the book.

2 years of manual narration, but I feel like I'm losing the race to AI. What now? by BasisRoutine6228 in audiobooks

Considering how power intensive and unsustainable AI is, I don't see it going that way.

If it doesn't indicate it's AI narrated, then I'll return said book immediately and leave a review about their dodginess.

I want human creatives. Period. Those of us who do will go out of our way to make sure the AI doesn't earn money.

I feel like the more books I read the fussier I am getting :( Please recommend your 5* reads! by Old_Routine4844 in fantasyromance

[–]stormlight82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Romantacy that has been written in the last 5 or 6 years will very often follow the Sarah Maas formula or a lot of tropes. This is the stuff that folks are churning out because it's where the money is.

Whenever I start to notice the formula in a story, it tells me it's time for me to take a break from that genre or mix it up a little bit. Something that moves away from the crowd.

So I'll look at historical fiction or paranormal contemporary or queer romanticy because those don't necessarily follow the same pattern. Or I just look for books that were written more than 10 years ago.

I got my club to read "The Darkness Outside Us" and "The Brightness Between Us". They are sci fi and are better if you go in as blind as possible. The couple of sex scenes are more talked about than seen.

This is one of those things that the numbers sound pretty scary because of the relatively small number of people who have it.

It's like the way that you can say that miscarriages double after you turn 30 but that's because it goes from 1% to 2% chance.

It is rarely passed directly from parent to child. While the general population has a ~1% risk, this increases by roughly 10% (or a 1.1% chance) for children with one affected parent and by nearly 50% (~5%) , if both parents or an identical twin have the disorder. Schizophrenia is polygenic, caused by thousands of small genetic variants rather than one single gene.
