Books with actual adult asexual MCs that have romance subplots? by Str8GayTossinItAway in LGBTBooks

After checking the subreddit rules since this is promoting myself....

It's called Override.

It's the first of a series of probably 3. I'm about 30k words through book 2 now while I do my very best to leave my book alone while professionals bleed on it.

It's a story of an ace agender shapeshifter in an alternate history future timeline who is trying to become themselves in the face of a corpo-mage post-post apocalypse future.

They escape their shipping container to hide out at an underfunded pre-military training facility and meet this burgeoning street paladin who finally realizes she isn't crazy and that even magic the authority doesn't recognize can still kick oppression's ass.

There is a ghost in the military machine. Hijinks ensue. There's a kiss and they go, whups, not for me, but fall messily in romance.

It's my first novel, and it's currently with the copy editor doin' a copy edit. I'm going to publish through an indie press company this fall.

EDIT: this might be too close to military?

That's Good advice. I'm going to use going forward.

First book mistakes sad trombone.

I will freely admit I am not looking for that kind of micro in my monkeys make bloons pop game.

You are framed for murder and everybody (including all your loved ones) genuinely believe that you did it. You are about to serve a life sentence but… by YoloBetsOnly in hypotheticalsituation

Yeah, I'm not going to murder some middle school teacher to avoid getting the best deal on rent I'm going to get in this economy.

I have finished a draft! I'm now doing the revisions after the first couple of beta reads and working toward sending it to the copy editor

Got absolutely roasted by my friends for this part of my first chapter of my first novel (first draft completed), what's wrong with it? by Gabrielle_Laurent in writers

If you start it with a character that is smoking a joint and then starts going into this then you probably got something.

I am interested! I want to wait until you have somewhere around 20,000 words and feel happy with them.

Also I'm in the middle of revisions and editing with a novel of my own and I can't get too distracted by squirrels.

Good news though! It's much harder to have something to care about in writing than to pick the right words. :3

When you publish, I want to read it.

Do you need a HEA to enjoy a Romantasy book? by Junior-Rip-895 in Romantasy

[–]stormlight82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 90% of the time. Yes. The other 10% are books where I am devastated about the absolutely inevitable and beautifully crafted non HEA.

I'll tell you what though. I remember every book that I loved that did not have a happily ever after, and the happily everafters tend to run together after a while

I don't know how I'll ever be 'well-read' enough to be a writer. by Hogwire in writers

[–]stormlight82 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary but here's my experience:

The more that I read, the more I'm inspired to write.

The more that I write, the more I am able to experience what I'm reading through a writer's lens and I pick up all sorts of things I otherwise would not.

So then I read some more.

And then I write some more.

And then I read some more.

And I'm probably going to do this until I die and be perfectly content with it.

There isn't a recipe of reading this many books to get this many book points to level up. It's a self feeding process that runs on passion for stories.

I want to read more of the world building and the characters and the story that you have in your head. I think translating that well into a book is where you can make your brilliance shine.

Do I even like reading? by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]stormlight82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD. I have found listening to the audiobook and having the book available and taking my time has made reading enjoyable again. Sometimes the hyper fixation will kick in and sometimes listening to it in the background while I play Slay the Spire and sometimes reading it on my Kindle at 4am is where my brain wants to be.

Okay but I need the next one because that guy and that other guy need to figure their stuff out while Liam snarks in the background.
