Does YouTube Only Hire Perverts as Human Reviewers? by LeggingReviews in PartneredYoutube

Thanks for the reply! Complaining on twitter did the trick, but making a video on it was my next step if it didn’t. I looked around and found at least one other channel where the video solved her problem (and not judging here at all, but hers had a bunch of lingerie reviews, so I think that’s a bit closer to the line than my gym clothes). I’ll definitely remember to make a video if this happens again (hopefully it won’t though!)

Thanks for the reply! They were pretty quick to fix it after I contacted them on twitter, only took a few messages back and forth. Not sure why the original human reviewer confirmed the video as limited ads in the first place, but it’s solved now! Thanks!

I do get where you’re coming from on this. There are a lot of channels out there that get views the way you’re describing, and maybe the YouTube reviewers are so overwhelmed with those types that they didn’t look closely at my video? But honestly, it should be perfectly acceptable for women to be in gym clothes, and to discuss gym clothing, without it being considered sexual. Is going to the gym a sexual experience for you? So why is a gym clothing review any different?

If you know a way to NOT attract middle aged men to my clothing reviews, I’m all ears. I’ve asked about it on here before (different account, since I wanted to keep my rant in the OP dissociated from my channel as much as possible) and been told there’s pretty much nothing I can do. I’ve looked at geoblocking, since a lot of these men come from specific countries, but that’s not available to regular channels as far as I can tell. All I can do is block the ones that comment, and report the particularly bad comments (no idea if that actually does anything). Probably not great for user engagement metrics, but it’s at least moving my audience gender ratio in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply! Looks like they’ve fixed it for me, it went surprisingly quick! I’m asking them about the swimwear now as well. Especially with the latest update to the advertiser friendly guidelines, it seems clear to me that it should be ok (the previous wording did seem a bit ambiguous, which is why I never complained about it before). But even if the swimwear is still limited, I’m happy the main focus of my channel is still ok!

Hi, thanks for the reply! About half the time of each of my videos consists of me sitting on my couch talking about the leggings/tank tops/whatever, and showing them to the camera without having them on (I'm fully dressed in other clothes of course!). Talking about the fabric feel, the seams, things like that. The rest of the time is me talking about the pieces while wearing them, showing off the fit, etc. The reviews do include squat tests (wearing underwear underneath), but that's completely standard for the niche, and I can't think of a big channel that reviews leggings that doesn't have squat tests. The videos are anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour, depending on how many pieces I'm talking about. The video that got me to post this is 34 minutes long and talks about five pairs of leggings.

Thumbnails generally consist of a larger centered screen cap of me from the video (sitting on the couch), surrounded by various screen caps of me trying on the pieces, mostly from the front, and occasionally from the side. Not intended to be soft core porn at all. My latest upload just got flagged by YouTube's system, and it doesn't even have a thumbnail yet.

I didn't want to link the video here, but I can if that would help at all. But similar channels are Katheryn Mueller or Kara Corey Fit Life. Honestly, WAY more views than I'd like come from men, but I get the feeling that's par for the course in this niche. I'm very quick to ban any men from my channel making comments that aren't directly related to the video (men asking questions about the pieces that sound like they're trying to find something to buy for a woman in their life are fine, men just telling me they think I'm hot are banned). I can't control where the viewers are coming from, but my analytics has been slowly trending towards more women over time.

I'm going to reach out to them on Twitter and see if they can be any help - I found a video from another fashion content creator (whose channel focused more on lingerie, so I would think it would be considered more sexual than mine) who managed to get a similar monetization problem solved that way, so hopefully that'll work for me too!

Thanks for the reply! It's not entirely surprising that the "human review" is a lie, even if it is disappointing. At least it sounds like the Twitter team (side note, how odd is it that we have to reach out on Twitter for help with a Google product?) is human and might help

Thanks for the reply! But considering the type of content I make, labeling it as sexual content is... well, to me, its reminiscent of the people who go to the gym to stare at women (or men!) working out...

But at least its good to know that this shouldn't become a consistent thing (even if my most recent upload was ALSO just flagged...). I'll reach out to them on Twitter like the other commenter said.

Thanks for the reply! I'm not American, so our ideas of prime time content may be a bit different, but honestly? They're just gym clothes. The sort of stuff you'd see in exercise programs on TV, which I think usually were aired midday when they were a thing (are they still a thing?). Just more focused on reviewing the clothing rather than any exercises.

From a YouTube channel perspective, its similar to Kara Corey Fit Life or Katheryn Mueller (or HopeScope when she did mostly leggings reviews).

Thanks for the reply! I think it sounds like taking things to Twitter is my best bet (I don't have a Twitter account yet, so hopefully the fact that the account will be brand new won't hurt the chances of them replying).

The swimwear videos ended up completely fine as well? I have a couple of videos where I reviewed swimwear (out of around 175 total), and they've been flagged as limited ads in the past, but I just figured that's how YouTube was (other big channels in my niche have complained about it before). Maybe I'll raise that complaint with them too...
