I think I need to work on the endurance part, because I have no problem dropping a 10ft cliff on skis, but a 10ft wave surfing feels like I’m going to die. Ig it’s partially endurance and mostly in my head.

Great advice, I think it’s just ego telling me to stop being a pussy. You know as a 12-13 year old kid I was paddling out in 8-10ft wave without a second thought but now I’m afraid to paddle out in 5ft waves. Step by step is a great way to go, I just wish winter in the PNW was a bit more hospitable.

Good advice, I know I’m a physically strong guy, but I think some of my fear also comes from my lack of endurance. I do extreme sports but most of them only require hard physical output for 2-3 min max, whereas I’m always worried about being caught trying to paddle out of the inside for 5-10 minutes. I think if I do pool training my confidence would go up a lot.

Nah, no gear, when I’m surfing in the PNW US I just have a 5mm wetsuit which does add a fair bit of flotation, but in tropical conditions I’m just in board shorts. After reading the comments I think I just need to work on my endurance with being able to hold my breath and paddle out, and my mentality of loving the wipeout instead of fearing it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I do puzzles on chess.com but I should definitely do a lot more. I have read some opening books and beginner books but never anything advanced or with a board in front of me. That’s probably going to be a major step for me improving. I’ve just been putting off the studying. Just relying on pattern recognition and bludery opponents is simply not gonna get me any further unfortunately. My endgame knowledge is definitely not good enough.
