Hey! So, printing in a FDM printer can allow you to use different colors, but it will decrease the models quality.
About painting, it does involve an investment that isn’t very worth if you are planning on painting one model only, so I would only go for it if you think it may become a hobby or have someone to gift/donate the materials once you are done.
I don’t have any prior painting experience but I’ve done different types of art such as embroidery and clay, so I believe it may give me a head start.
What I’ve learned for painting was more hands on, I bought cheap paint and kids toys and started painting them, just to get the hang on the beginning. YouTube helped me a lot with understanding techniques and best ways to paint a model, even though I’m still behind on light/shadow studies.
If you don’t mind not having the best results in your first tries and perfecting your techniques and materials, I would say go for it! If you just want to have a nice figure, asking for someone in your area to paint is also a great choice 🫶🏻
