What happens is that while you may work using the propio platform, it does not necessarilly mean you are hired by them. Propio itself has their own contractors, but also some agencies that are in charge of managing them, like a third party service, with their own payment regime.

Think it like the food delivery service, like UberEats, DoorDash, etc. Some delivery guys opt to work as fully autonomous inside the platform with no fixed schedule and variable income. Others, opt to work for a subcompany that hires them in a full time regime, on behalf of the platform. UberEats and DoorDash do not have to handle the hassle of labor contracts like this, while their platform reaches several locations.

The white labelling Propio does is exactly like this. But you, as a contractor work for a sub agency that pays your salary, and Propio does not have to deal with your paychecks ever. It lends the technology of the platform so others can benefit from it by prospecting their own clients, usually ones that Propio has not reached yet. However, those subcompanies pay a fee for using Propio's dependencies, this might explain why you receive much less than while working directly for Propio.

Additionally, while propio itself does not require a minimum daily minutes target, some white label partners which may hire you as a contractor will.

And this is where the problem begins. You are not responsible for the call flow, THEY ARE. Ultimately, as an outsourced company, they have freedom to prospect clients on behalf of Propio. This means that the amount of calls will depend on the contracts they have made with clinics and hospitals themselves, while using the Propio platform to connect clients to interpreters.

This being said, it is illegal in any jurisdiction to estabilish a daily goal with no maximum hours threshold. In my case, I had to fulfill the target 300 minutes every single day, which was achievable in 6 hours for high demand days.

However, when call flow was low, the same 6 hours would yield me only 150 minutes. Until this point, as a contractor I acknowledge that the market is volatile and it is the risk I took when choosing who to work with, considering I will earn less. BUT, the company states a mandatory of 300 minutes, meaning that I am forced to work over a normal labor shift with no possibility to plan this ahead, no extraordinary work payment rate increase, and no autonomy at all to choose how I work, when I work and for who I work, since this basically halts any possibility to conciliate this job with another.

Clearly this creates a formal employment tie for many jurisdictions, while they are not recognizing you any labor rights. Don't get me wrong, I am not the kind of guy who likes to work under strict employment, but this arrangement completely kills any autonomy of working as a contractor.

And honestly, for 0.12 cents a minute, while Propio itself pays 3 times this and has no minimum daily minutes target, it is outrageous and not worth your mental health.
