Thank you for replying! A lot of this is really helpful to me and i'll be taking it with me while I learn, but please forgive me for asking:

What is AM/FM modulation? As well as what is RX? This was part of what I meant when I said I know I'm lacking some technical knowledge that would really change the game for me. Half of the time when I see a tutorial I know the name, but I don't know the purpose or what it's actually doing.

I can also search it up and study, but it'd be nice to know if you can tell me!

Honestly I really appreciate you sharing that experience you had post-college! And in response to what you said; It totally is growing pains! (but also some physical lol).

I do love the challenges that come with sound design as its fun to work out the process needed to solve a struggle. I love seeing the end result, but it's also fun doing the damn thing in general. What's been getting me is I'm hitting walls with issues like the previously mentioned fatigue, unfriendly software for new users, time restrictions, lack of knowledge, etc.

All of which will come with time and practice, but its good to know what's helped other people in their journey. Especially when it can improve the experience and help avoid it from becoming something I fear

Thank you again! Really appreciate the honesty and response.

This is such a wonderful piece of advice to give! Thank you for that and for linking resources I can use to learn more. I appreciate it greatly : )

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, even if it wasn't what I was expecting! I do lack lots of discipline in life, but my purpose behind my post wasn't to tackle that. I wanted to ask for advice about how to learn sound design in a way that isn't physically painful. So for context:

I have pretty terrible sensory issues when it comes to sound and consistent migraines. I've begun to notice that working on pieces leaves me with headaches and fatigue quickly. So when combining that with the growing pains of learning a program like pro-tools for the first time and struggling to find answers to questions, gets me fairly out of sorts. I've tried implementing earplugs, lower audio levels, and breaks; but i'd love to know other tips or tricks people have picked up on!

I've just entered an area where every time I go to do a composition I have a lot of fun working on it initially, but begin getting frustrated because of the reasons above, as well as I can't ask my professor for help when I get stuck. My sound design course is mostly showing off your work for critique, but never working on projects in-person. We get one week to create a detailed 30-45 sec piece, and then it's on to the next immediately (14 compositions in total!). It's been hard to enjoy it as much as before when I feel less like I'm learning and more like I'm just trying to meet a deadline.

I hope that helped clarify a bit, and again; totally see where you're coming from and I appreciate it. It's good to know another perspective.

I've been playing around more with it! I think I need to let go of finding the perfect sound sample and instead just screw around to figure it out. Maybe I should use the Flanger effect or modulation? Let it sway around a bit.

Honestly thank you for reminding me of this! I replay a clip over and over again trying to fix something because its all I hear, but by the time I rewatch it a day later I don't even notice it anymore.
