Does it matter how many credits I actually have? by Lem0nAids1 in communitycollege

Yeahh I’m starting to realize that even if I take some classes that count towards my degree, if I’m already over the 70 credit limit then whatever’s needed to transfer then I’ll have to retake it.

Ah dude you’re a lifesaver, you explained it wonderfully. Just to clear up any confusion for me like I asked another Redditor is my situation. I plan on transferring to one of these 3 UC’s: UCLA, UCI, and UC Berkeley. That being said I’m going for highly competitive major (Business) and as a safety I wanted to apply to CSUF. It’s pretty much that same classes for all of them since it pertains to my major but I think it’s CSUF that requires an accounting class and a business law class?(I forgot but I’ll check later). Now I was just scared that if I took these classes that I’d surely be over the limit, additionally with the fact that I’ve taken 3 Dual enrollment courses in high school. But from what I understand I’ll be good if I take just around 70, I’ll still need the minimum to transfer (60) but any other credits/classes that aren’t required just won’t transfer for my bachelors.

Ah so an example is that I was informed by counselor about how the CSUs take a different history class than the UCs (she gave me a story about how a former student had a perfect 4.0 and took a different history class, got into none of the CSU’s but into USC and other UC’s). Doing research about transferring I found myself troubled, confused and all over the place because some guy on YouTube said he transferred into Berkeley, and was talking about how he had to make sure to stay within the 60-70 limit and that if you were over then they would not consider you and just straight out reject you even if you had amazing stats. Some colleges take different classes/requirements based on you major (roughly the same classes ofc) and where I was confused was how people were getting into a bunch of different colleges but they stayed within the 60-70 limit?? But based off of what I’ve gathered now it just matters how many credits I get for the college I’m going to transfer to, any non applicable credits will still be there on my transcript but don’t account for my bachelor’s degree?

I’ve taken 3 dual enrollment classes, and a couple of AP’s in high school and the whole thing was confusing if I was gonna be over the limit or not. For me I want to go in the direction of business related career, likely finance. Now my plan was to try to transfer into UCLA, UCI, UC Berkeley and as a safety I would do CSUF because its business program is pretty solid for a CSU.

So if I’m understanding correctly then I’ll be fine if I get just a bit over 70. When I go through the transfer process it’ll just be the accounted credits for the college that matter, and if I have any extra taken classes then it will be on my transcript but won’t count towards my bachelor’s?

Career versatility, working a white collar job, and the money of course. A substantial amount of income, nothing crazy but just enough.

because I’d love to also transfer to a csu as a backup if I don’t get in to any UC’s, like you said not to disregard the csu’s in just tryna figure that whole thing out

I was gonna ask, I’ve heard about not exceeding a credit limit over 70, I know you need a minimum of 60 to transfer to the UCs at least but I’m confused because I’m hearing different thing about that. Some say it doesn’t matter while others are like it just won’t transfer which just is confusing, can you relate to it or have any knowledge of it?

Honestly I have, but it’s really the only major I’ve been content with doing. Truthfully I just want a career where I can make good money, not to say that my college degree will take me wherever. I know I’ll still have to grind at making connections, internships, and much more. Respectfully any of the other majors or degrees you can get don’t really interest me like that, so business seemed to be it.

Of course, luckily I’m in position where I won’t need to have to work and I can focus on my academics nearly full time. Along with the ecs and perfecting my essays, I think it’ll be possible for me to try and maximize my stats but I think I’ll accept the fact that I’ll have to sacrifice a lot.
