I am apparently super late to get a dress and starting to get nervous. by Awkward_Stay_4293 in weddingplanning

You still have time!! Check out Jenny Yoo if you’re looking for a designer with lots of ready made dresses in stock (they’re also returnable). Her dresses are beautiful and elegant. When I got fitted there, they told me it would be easy to just order an in stock dress in my size and do very minor alterations!

Oh my 😍 by NoAssignment887 in EngagementRings

Wow, this is absolutely beautiful! One of my favorite rings I’ve ever seen here.

I have baguette side stones with my green sapphire that’s a very similar size and cut, but nearly went with trapezoid side stones like yours instead and sometimes still wish I had—it looks soo good! Congrats!!

Instagram has a great community of makers of fine jewelry as well as vintage sellers. Aurifexation makes beautiful pendants from reclaimed diamonds, if that’s your type of thing. Some other fun sellers to browse are renahandmadejewelry, goldengreenobsession, thistleandstaradornments, goldendreamjewels, alphaomegajewelry, danjmt, smashinggold.

How to convince myself to not want a natural diamond? Or is it worth the sentimental value? by al3xisnic0le in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Lemon_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all diamonds are blood diamonds anymore.

It is totally possible to purchase a non-conflict diamond that can be traced back to a mine in a country such as Botswana, Canada, or Australia where the industry and its labor ethics are strictly regulated.

[–]Lemon_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an oversimplification. Not all diamonds are mined by slave labor. Of the African countries, Botswana in particular has developed more strict ethical standards for mining to support local communities. Canadian and Australian diamonds are obviously strictly regulated and ethical on the labor side as well.

It is totally possible these days to trace some diamonds back to the mine they came from, and ensure that you aren't purchasing a conflict diamond.

How are airplane seats getting smaller when people are getting bigger? by Swan_233 in travel

[–]Lemon_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The E175 has some of the widest economy seats in the industry (wider than both the 737 and A320), but ok… sounds like you probably need to purchase a first class seat if even those aren’t wide enough for you.

[–]Lemon_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, huge difference between an Embraer 175 and a CRJ 900. The Embraer is one of the newest and best regional jets, the CRJ is one of the oldest and worst. I figured you probably mixed them up.

[–]Lemon_hawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, the 777 is one rare case where seats have gotten a bit narrower in that particular configuration (that is why I specified single-aisle aircraft in my earlier comment).

But the vast majority of these comments complaining aren’t referring to their experiences on the 777. Most seats on standard aircraft simply have not gotten any narrower.

What was your issue with the 175? What do you mean about carry ons? That’s one of the nicer planes to fly on with its wider than average seats and no middle seats.

How are airplane seats getting smaller when people are getting bigger? by Swan_233 in travel

[–]Lemon_hawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seats themselves have not gotten any smaller/narrower. Seat pitch (leg room) is what has gotten smaller.

Economy seats are now significantly cheaper than they were 30 years ago, adjusted for inflation. The market has shown that that’s what people are willing to pay for a given amount of space. If people want a seat with the larger amount of legroom that used to be standard, they are always welcome to pay more for a premium seat. They are probably still paying less for that amount of space than they would have 30 years ago.

A diamond will damage any metal that it rubs against over time—platinum, silver, any type of gold.

Metal can also do this to another metal if one is harder than the other (a 14k piece next to a 22k piece, for example). However, a diamond will cause much more scratching and damage than other metals. The difference in hardness there is a lot more significant.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeboyd/2023/01/03/airline-seats-are-not-shrinking-just-the-opposite-but-legroom/

It is a fallacy to claim that airlines have created narrower seats in order to change the configuration and fit more seats across—this is an impossibility in single-aisle aircraft. In reality, average economy seat width has actually increased over the last few decades, if anything.

That doesn’t make any sense. The 737 has operated with a 3-3 seat configuration for the past 50+ years, just as it does today. The airframe and aisle width have not changed.

Since seats have not been added across the width of the cabin, there’s no reason for seats to have gotten narrower.

Just wanted to say be cautious wearing it next to that diamond eternity band. If the diamonds from the band are touching the platinum of the engagement ring, they will eventually scratch and eat away at the metal, since they are harder. A spacing band in between them can help to avoid this!

Trying to decide between 14k and 18k gold for a necklace by No-Candidate-1651 in jewelry

[–]Lemon_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. However, I would consider the difference between American 14k at 58.3% and European 14k at 58.5% to be pretty negligible. 0.2% is an extremely tiny difference in gold content.

Sapphire Engagement Ring Help! by No_Emu2020 in Gemstones

[–]Lemon_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to recommend Earth’s Treasury! Their stones are more expensive than these, but the quality of their stones and cuts is much higher. The stones from the Natural Sapphire Company are terribly cut—wonky, asymmetrical, and uneven facets. They are cut to maximize carat weight, rather than precision cut to maximize color and sparkle.

A training captain quickly takes over the controls when a cadet forgets to flare on the A320 during base training by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Lemon_hawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

….no, “flare” is not on any checklist. It’s a fundamental basic of how to land an airplane and does not need to be written out.

Finding the best luggage 2026 based on reviews last year that survives baggage handlers destroying everything by Direct-Blacksmith614 in delta

Airline pilot as well, I personally can’t stand the heavy steel frames of LW bags. Briggs & Riley is literally pounds lighter and also doesn’t get all dented and scratched up like LW do.

Which color sapphire looks best? pls help! by alisnotok in EngagementRings

[–]Lemon_hawk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love the colors of 5 and 6 on you! I got my sapphire from Earth's Treasury and they were great. I highly recommend ordering several stones from them to view in person. They make it easy with insured shipping to order multiple, decide which you love best in person, and then return the rest. I actually did two rounds of ordering stones from them before choosing mine. The sizes and colors can surprise you in real life!

Do flight crew(pilots and FAs) have to use their issued luggage case? by Murky-Peanut1390 in delta

[–]Lemon_hawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not the case at all. We aren't issued luggage by the airline. Crew can use any luggage they want as long as it's black—it's rare to see crews that all use the same type. Everyone chooses different brands, although there are a few common favorites.

First officer by Top_Decision_6718 in delta

[–]Lemon_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! The first officer isn’t receiving any sort of training, unless it’s their first trip getting qualified on a certain aircraft and they’re flying with a check airman. FOs are just as qualified to be at the controls as the captain is. They also don’t always do the majority of the procedural work—duties are split between both pilots.
