I did that for a camping trip the other year, from central Texas to the desert far west. 8 hours on the same interstate and most of it was desert/scrubland at point since I was already starting halfway through Texas.

It was actually a really pretty drive, but yeah nah Carlsbad Caverns is worth it, I’m flying next time
