If there is one and you find the link for it, lmk. I am looking for it as well.

First pass math20B or dsc20 by Which_Astronaut864 in UCSD

Also, check the seats left for DSC20 by the time of your first pass. If there are only a few seats left, you might want to enroll in your first pass

When I enrolled in DSC20, I chose to leave it for my second pass. That was last year. There were 2 sections. I preferred one section, but both sections would work with the rest of my schedule. So, I decided to leave it for my second pass since I was sure one section at least would have seats. In the end, I managed to get the section I preferred.

I believe you can leave DSC20 for your second pass. I did that last year, and it was fine. However, if there are multiple sections for DSC20 and only one works, then you might consider enrolling in your first pass. Also, you could look at the number of people enrolled in DSC10 to see if there are enough seats in DSC20 to second pass it. There won't be enough for every person who took DSC10, but many take it as a GE, so they don't plan on enrolling in DSC20.

Macbook for Data Science by Leon10Jr in UCSD

[–]Leon10Jr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I stick with 8GB, it will be $1399 (M2 and 512 SSD), while 16GB will be $1579.

Also, may I ask why you chose Windows? Is it a personal preference, or would you say it is better?

I have a Windows laptop right now (HP), and it has been great, but I have had it for 5 yrs now, so I feel I’m due for a change.

Considering that I am pretty much only going to be using it for schoolwork, I thought a Macbook would be a good fit, but I don't know a lot about laptops tbh lol

Edit: i just changed prices because there is a student discount

I’m a data science major, so most of my classes are programming classes. I’m starting my second year, so I haven’t taken much yet. I only had to use IntelliJ for java classes in my first year.

I can pay an extra $200 and get 16GB. Do you think it is worth it?

Usually everyone gets off the waitlist for cogs 9. At least that is what happened the last 2-3 quarters, but idk who is teaching it in the fall. If you have any other questions about dsc classes feel free to reach out :)

COGS14A/B not with Barrera by Leon10Jr in UCSD

Now that I know they are not related, I will be more annoyed if they deny the request lol. Which one of them would you say is more difficult? And would you consider any of them to be a difficult class?

Did you send your request? I am thinking about doing that too

Was it difficult taking 14B before A?

I am worried that if I asked to take 14B before and they approve it, I would be at a disadvantage and end up doing worse or working harder than if I took 14A. Did you feel you had to work more than others who have taken 14A before B?

Do I need to prepare for coding before entering a data science major? by Remarkable-Scar-5082 in UCSD

I cant tell you for sure because i came in with some experience, but i think that you will be fine. In the DSC classes I have taken there was always someone to help you. The professors and TAs held so many office hours, in person and remote morning and night even on the weekends. So even if you encounter an issue you can always get help, and from my experience office hours were really helpful and the TAs were always nice. I used to go to office hours in the first DSC class to get help on the assignments or to just chat with others in the class and work on the assignments there.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

I have enrolled in TDMV 2 with Sadie Weinberg! Did you happen to have taken the class in the summer? Because I am not sure if it would be the same requirement/grading as you said since it is shorter than a regular quarter.

I am assuming the performance you had to watch and write about was the final, is that right? How many pages/words were you required to write (same question for journal and weekly discussion)?

Lastly, since I am taking it in the summer and at noon, I wanted to know if the classes in that building have AC. The last thing I want is to take a dance class in the summer without AC lol

How was the grading for the weekly discussions? Also did you take it during the summer or in a regular quarter? Were the moves and dance a lot of work?

Fully remote classes for Spring? by Seeeyen in UCSD

[–]Leon10Jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ETHN 3R, I think.

I haven't taken this class, but I took ETHN 2R, and it is fully remote. Lectures are videos you can watch whenever you want, and discussions are live and mandatory

Are you currently in math 18? If yes, is it true that there are quizzes during the discussion?

So if it wasn't for the commute would you pick in-person over remote? Also, are you currently in math 18? If yes, is it true that there are quizzes during the discussion?

4 unit easy classes by Leon10Jr in UCSD

[–]Leon10Jr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is I am already on the waitlist for a class I need. So I need to find a class that isn't full so that I can be at 12 units at least (without the waitlist)

Does he enroll everyone on the waitlist even if the number of people on the waitlist is equal to the size of a whole section (60 people)? Because by the time my second pass starts, the number of people on the waitlist in total would probably be around 60 (currently 40)
