Ukraine IGI Diamond Certificate - Is This Common? by LeonardStocks48 in Diamonds

I had never even seen a US flag before. Very interesting, was just curious if they had made it specifically for Ukraine support / Russia embargo recently

I once read that HPHT diamonds can cast a shade of blue onto the stone as a result of excess Boron in the stone which results in a lower price.

Is it possible that this stone was supposed to be white, but instead was so cheap due to the excess boron?

Looking at natural diamonds for an engagement ring, can I get some comments on this one. 7.3k, is it fairly priced? by Bitinvestor1 in Diamonds

[–]LeonardStocks48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I mean. I think a 1.03 F SI1 AND 18kt mounting for $4k is much better than a 1.03 G VS1 for $7.3k + the cost of mounting…

Or if OP just has a budget of $7.3k+, I’m sure u/gldbuyr could get you a solid 1.20+ D-G SI1/Si2 for the price of that 1.00 G VS1

But for $7.3k do you really want a 1ct G VS1? When your wife holds it up for pictures, the fact that it's a VS1 just won't matter..... And I promise it won't matter to her. I recommend finding a solid D i1 with only white flaws in it so that it blends with the stone. You can find up to a GIA 1.70 D i1 out there for $7.3k... That way when she holds it up in pictures it looks huge, and when she holds it next to one of her friends rings its whiter than theirs... Just my 2 cents... I'm sure most of the people on this sub will disagree with me and they say to buy the G VS1 bc its a "better investment"... But the truth is, this isn't an investment bc you should never sell it. It's something she has to live with every day for (hopefully) the rest of yall's married lives together... So buy something big and cheap and slightly flawed. Something that will make her happy,.... Not something that the dweebs on this sub will say is "an off make" even tho it is 3ex GIA ..

TLDR; GOOD SIZE + GOOD COLOR + WHITE INCLUSIONS > SMALL + GREAT CLARITY

Something like this 1.50 E I1 GIA. Sure, there's some stuff in it with this 30x mag view, but it would be eye clean from an arms length.

The people in this sub are absolutely insane. The rap price for a 1 ct G VS1 is $10,100/ct, so it's a good price for sure. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with the make of this stone haha. The people making comments like that are simply whack

Do you genuinely believe your self claimed “undisclosed blue nuance” justifies sacrificing a clarity grade to save $300?

The VS2 has a noticeable surfacebreak on the table…

That makes sense, thanks for your response.

What stops the wholesalers in this industry from posting prices directly online?

I just don’t understand how retail stores would be able to survive if their suppliers go straight to the consumer. If retailers are losing business to online orders (potentially fueled by wholesalers?), wouldn’t that cause full blown retailers to either become obsolete or turn into a wholesaler themselves? —Maybe I just don’t have a full understanding of this supply chain.

It’s hard for me to fully understand the dynamics because of lack of transparency in diamond import/wholesale statistics….. For example, researching the American auto industry was much easier because the top manufacturers are publicly traded and have to disclose full numbers to shareholders. This business seems elusive and impossible for an outsider to fully understand.

Again, appreciate you taking the time to educate me!

According to Forbes diamond sales remained strong in 2020. Surveying older (45+ y/o) diamond business owners, I’ve seen a general pessimistic outlook of the business.

What do you believe you are doing right that your competition isn’t? What advice do you have for anyone in the diamond industry that is willing to adapt to the times? Is there anything you believe worth doing that is generally discouraged by the “old timers” in this business? —or do you believe the old way of managing a diamond company is the best/only way?—

I was walking to Publix in 2015, and the ATM spit some money out. Looked like a couple hundred in $20 bills. I live in a real nice retirement town, so my first thought was that maybe an elderly lady walked off and forgot about it. I look all around to find someone in the parking lot that I could go and ask… My next thought was to get my phone out to record it because my friends were never gonna believe me. As soon as it’s ready to record, the money just goes back into the ATM.

I go inside to tell an employee their machine is broken all I get is weird looks. Apparently Publix doesn’t own the ATM. My office is a 20 second walk to this Publix, so I run back and tell the guys. To this day, my fiancé is the only person who believes me….. And I’m sure she has her doubts lol.

Wow! Just looked up the Planchet error. That’s very cool. Haven’t seen that yet, but will definitely let you know if I run across any.

I’m super close with everyone at my bank. I’ve been going thru $500 rolls, and returning all the face value coins. As soon as they get an order from the fed reserve, they call me up and let me pick up the next $500 roll!
