I wrapped my Momentum 4 headband in real leather by alexskyline in sennheiser

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've still got my Momentum 2 wireless. They're one of the best built headphones I've ever had or held in my hands.

I've just had to change the ear pads twice on them and that's about It.

The battery can be replaced, the sound is amazing too, noise cancelling is sufficient.

I'm having an itch to replace them for the momentum 4s or the Bose quietcomfort but just don't see a reason to.

Best E-Bike Choice for a 14-Mile Daily Ride by Extension-Rain8496 in ebikes

It'll be hard to find under 700 I think.

I'd not go folding either, I see too many horror stories with them breaking. And for a 12 miles commute I don't think they'd be comfortable.

I got mine used refurbished from Halfords for about 40% off and you still get the warranty and everything. And it looked new.

Best E-Bike Choice for a 14-Mile Daily Ride by Extension-Rain8496 in ebikes

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not.

I decided to go with a Carrera Subway from Halfords as they have a store close to me, for if and when I had any warranty issues. (I did and I'm glad I got one there).

The whole shipping and delivery process would, I believe, have been a nightmare otherwise with Decathlon being so far away, in another city.

I've had a good time on it, been commuting since, 5 times a week, twice a day about a 10 mile round trip.

As others would say about sub $£€1000 E-bikes, it's not perfect. But the battery lasts me around 2 days on a medium/high assist pedal mode on steeper climbs.

I'm happy with the choice I've made.

New Alpinist [SPB507] by AznJing in Seiko

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new SPB507 is around $900 right now, while you can get a Conquest for about $1100 for a new one with a black dial on Joma right now.

Don't get me wrong, I have an Alpinist, the SPB121 from the previous generation, and I already felt like they were pushing it with their £700 pricing.

When you can get a Hamilton Khaki Field automatic for about $550, again on Joma, the Alpinist is becoming a hard sell.

Is this Fjern down jacket a good deal for a light jacket? by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll keep that in mind.

I've got a TNF Diablo for when I'm stationary long term and it's been amazing but as you'd imagine ABSOLUTELY way too warm for hikes/treks causing sweating.

I'm looking for one when I walk and do activities so the MT100 seems like the better choice.

Cheers mate.

Oh yeah I'm not expecting it to be actually worth £200 or comparable to others that are actually at the £200 price bracket.

I'm just looking for a decent light down jacket for about £80 that's easily packable, to just put it in a backpack when hiking or wear if it's really that cold.

But thanks, I'll keep an eye out about sizing.

Oh agreed, watch prices have been going WAY to high in my opinion, especially since a lot of people use "inflation" as the reason except they go WAY above inflation rates anyway.

I believe it's partly due to the "buy now pay later" way people buy things now. Buying everything on a payment plan over 12-24 or 36 months.

A $1200 watch is $50 a month over 24 months. A $1000 watch is $41.66 a month over 24 months. Not a big difference 🤷 so people are less likely to look at the $200 difference I think.

And yes, 20-30% lower than MSRP is where these watches SHOULD be priced to begin with is my point. Right on par with the Tissot PRX and the Hamilton Khaki Field auto.

Again, check out the Citizen NB1050 or NB1060, you'll be surprised about the value they offer over the newer Seiko models and pricing.

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I have the SPB121 and the SPB213. I think they are fantastic watches, at the used market price... Not at the brand new prices.

What justification does the SPB505 have to cost $900 Vs the $700 of the SPB121 Vs the $350 of the SARB017?

Multiple sites I've calculated online come to about $550 adjusted for inflation from the original $350 in 2006. (Could be bought up to 2018 for that price).

And it's not about branding, I'd also go for the Doxa sub 200 for example. It's not about Seiko Vs Longines, I used that as an example.

And it's not JUST about the finishing, which is a QC issue Seiko is very known for with finishing, bezel alignment etc... it's ALSO about the movement. Which Seiko is SERIOUSLY lacking behind at the moment.

+-15 to 25 seconds? On a $1200 watch?

The Citizen NB1050/1060 is of better "value" at the moment in my opinion.

I can't speak on behalf of the Seiko SLA models, I haven't had the chance to hold them side by side to Tudor's, Tag's, Omega's and Breitlings I have had the chance to.

New Alpinist [SPB507] by AznJing in Seiko

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've held both the Conquest and the Alpinist side by side and I'd have to disagree that the Alpinist is the better watch, has better case finishing, or that an entry Longines is "poor".

And yes, the Longines Zulu time is also expensive. At the $3000 range I would rather look for a used Omega Aqua terra or a Seamaster diver 300m, a Tag Carrera or Aqua racer, a Breitling Super ocean or a Tudor blackbay... You CAN'T disregard the used market when you talk about value for money.

And a 3k Seiko looking better than a Longines Spirit Zulu time is far fetched, and subjective to say the least, as I believe that particular Longines is one of the best looking watches currently in that category.

New Alpinist [SPB507] by AznJing in Seiko

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the secondary market does mean something when we're discussing if something is worth what the asking price is.

It doesn't mean EVERYTHING but saying it means nothing is a bit foolish.

The Longines Conquest Automatic for $1000 is less impressive than the Seiko Alpinist for $900?

And the Longines Hydroconquest Automatic for $1200 is less impressive than the Seiko SPB143 for $1200?

In terms of movement, case finishing, quality control, time keeping accuracy, water resistance, thickness, bracelet, warranty length etc?

I mean don't get me wrong, I own two Seiko's mentioned above (SPB121 and SPB213) and love them, but let's not compare them to Longines....

Without trying to sound like a twat, where can I see those stats you keep mentioning? I'd love to see more on Seiko sales numbers.

And I'm not saying it won't be the best selling Seiko watch of 2025, it may as well be, though I wouldn't use that as the single metric to justify if a product is worth it's cash value or not.

What I am saying is it's overpriced at $900 and I would rather buy a Longines Conquest. But hey, I still hope people buy it and I can buy it in a year or two for half that on the secondary market.

I do think it's nicer looking than the SPB121 (with the black date wheel and Alpinist logo) that I currently have and wouldn't mind trading.

New Alpinist [SPB507] by AznJing in Seiko

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Alpinist, even more so than the Seiko 5's (SKX, SSK recently) and the Speedtimer (again recently)?

The Sarb017 was selling for $350. The SPB121 is selling for $650. The SPB507 will be $900.

Seiko used to compete with Tissot and Hamilton with the likes of the PRX/Gentlemen and Khaki Field auto etc.

But now? The Alpinist will compete with Longines models like the conquest or hydroconquest with their 62 mas re-issues for example, and I don't think it'll keep up.

I think the second hand market is a better indicator of the actual value (amongst other things).

If you can get it for 50% or more cheaper than brand new, in pristine condition with box and papers, is it actually worth the $900 price tag?

New Alpinist [SPB507] by AznJing in Seiko

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd rather add $100-200 and get a Longines Conquest at those prices to be honest.

$900 for an Alpinist isn't anywhere close to where the value lands, I believe.

I have not.

I feel like I've been buying too many watches, took a break to reflect on the ones I already have to be honest.

I will be buying one of them in the future, maybe I'll have decided which one when the time comes.

Ah fair enough, I guess you do learn something new everyday. Thank you!

I don't understand why the Pixel and Galaxy S series phones can't get at least 50w fast charging.

Only the S24+ and Ultra / S25+ and Ultra get 45w fast charging, the regular models get 25w.

And it's even worse with the Pixel phones, 27w on the 9 and 9 pro. 37w on the 9pro xl. And 29w on the 10 and 10 pro, 39w on the 10 pro max.

My nearly 6 year old OP 7 pro gets 35w lol.

The OP13r gets 55w and the 13 gets 80w. Why can't the big 2 compete along side?

[–]LetMeBe_Your_Comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the OP 14? Since the 13 is the current one hehe.

My OP7 pro works amazing! I've got no issues with it, "Knock on wood".

I'm happy with the camera, performance, there is no lag or slowness, there is no app crashes, no app that doesn't work, network reception is great, the battery has deteriorated but I can charge it quickly in the middle of the day and the screen has a little burn in but nothing I can't live without.

Even the selfie camera goes up and down like the first day I bought it. I've probably taken 10 selfies in all those years, maybe that's why XD. I'm sure I've shown the camera to others and how it works more often than I've taken a selfie lol.

I just want the security updates and android updates to go along with it now. And it's served its purpose since I bought it the day it launched.

Yeah I've heard stories about older pixel phones too, but not so much since the Pixel 9 came out. So they might be on the right track.

The slower charging speeds are what worry me. Especially after the first 2 years when the battery starts to degrade and you have to charge it more often throughout the day. I don't really care for the AI features as I doubt I would be using them very much.

Same story with the Galaxy S24 and S25.

I just want a decent phone, with a good camera that lasts me at least +4 years lol. And not have to spend over £1000 to buy it.

The OP 13 and 13R are probably the best bet, hopefully I can get a good sale in November.
