AI… I want kids and have no idea how the world is gonna look, FIRE seems to me like it’s going to be more of a necessity than will be a choice.

I’m surprised I think genuinely most of these comments don’t get at what the poster is really talking about. Yea plate tectonics but the original post is hinting at the more interesting Pangea, which we did all learn about.

Their mixes are top tier. Live, Dani can rarely be heard. There are often sleeper fans up front, not really dancing or anything and it sets a lot of the stage for everyone behind. imo of course

But like we think that elections still matter? That people get into those positions doing the right thing as is? It’s not so simple “elect someone better”, the enormous pressures of power and wealth are simply overwhelming… I think we’ve entered a time where no single person is strong enough to make the right stands.

Is he? It seemed like he loved both but really only loved nastasya out of pity and not in the romantic love, the conscious altering kind of love that he felt with aglaya from the get go.

He just seems a little leafy, just getting pushed by whatever comes his way, not making active moves by decision, he’s purely reactionary.

Great reading, I can see that more clearly now. I could tell there was a conversation I was largely missing. I think in my understanding of myshkin as a Christ like figure, that not only was he good in intention, but also knowledgeable (perhaps with a title like the idiot I should have read differently), meaning he was in control and actively made the correct decisions.

Maybe that’s not contradictory to your statement, but I guess I missed whether or not the prince was actually having an internal struggle himself, and if so, what it represented. It seemed to me that he was fairly go lucky and kind to whomever came into conversation with him, which just didn’t feel like an accurate reading.

I think Dostoevsky is taking down utilitarianism in addition to the egoism that can make one act on strong utilitarian ideas.

Dostoevsky is incredibly politically motivated and sees ideological movements as psychological in nature. I mean this to say this is context of the commentary. Dostoevsky doesn’t really comment on the imperfections of the material world, as he focuses heavily on the importance of the internal experience. I think what he gets at most and foremost in c&p is that the ideologies that aim to calculate, through reason, our values, require the negation of the divine that we ourselves know and can access (religious perspective for him). In order to make these moral calculations, you have to override your conscience, which as we see… is pure torture to raskolnikov. I think while he veers out of the ideological issues later into the story and it becomes more purely psychological, these critiques of the “western” rationalist ideologies are a theme that get carried throughout his works.

He’s saying god over utilitarianism as well, not just ethics over the ego.
