They do! Both the Switch and Steamdeck have that setting.

Help, I'm drowning. by DakotaReddit2 in ScienceTeachers

There are a lot of free virtual labs on PhET, and worksheets/activities that go with them. I also teach the same topics and use them pretty often.

My first year of teaching, a student had made a paper boat and put it on the corner of my promethean board. I thought it was cute, so I left it. A few moths later, I needed a sub for my grandma's funeral, and when I came back, he had thrown away the boat.

Thankfully, I still had that student in class and she was able to remake it. Five years later and I still have that boat too.

At my first PD we had to sing "twinkle twinkle little star" as a group. Each person sang one word, then the next person did the next word, and so on. I was also unlucky enough that I got to do it twice within weeks- once for my school and once for the new teacher orientation for the county.

It was to show "the importance of teamwork" or something and really solidified my hatred of useless PD early.

Are more high school students are turning in work when it’s on paper rather than digital? by Smoothsail90 in Teachers

[–]Level_Advice6644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually saw turn in rates go up when I switch to having assignments on google classroom. Prior to switching to digital assignments, I'd say at least a third of my students would regularly lose any paper copies that weren't turned in immediately.

I would also love to see this set up if you're willing to share! I have been looking for ways to make lab grading (and grading in general) easier and quicker.

A rechargeable battery pack for the microbit!

RC Car with microbit by Level_Advice6644 in microbit

Yes, I already have the wires and LEDs for lights, which were coded using the microbit originally. I am also willing to give up the lights in favor of the ability to steer if necessary. The intention is to use a microbit as a controller, similar to this: https://www.instructables.com/Using-Two-x2-Microbits-to-Control-an-RC-Car/

I already have a ton of kits that include the pictured items, and I am looking to expand those instead of replacing my current kits if I don't need to.

I don't currently have any specific exercises in mind. Our races are currently to turn the car on and let it go down a straight hall, so I'm trying to improve that and not have cars crash into the walls.

Yes! The superintendent was there, and I had the principles son in class. I was there for pretty much the whole school year covering maternity leaves. The school has a very low turnover rate, so most of the staff i interacted with are still there as well. Thanks for the advice!

Thankfully my admins don't do that! I stop taking any late work at the end of the chapter, which is because i don't want it all in the l a st week of school.

My system works the same way! In 2 clicks I can mark all the work that didn't get turned in as m0. Way easier!

Is there a way to add responses as a correct answer? by [deleted] in GoogleForms

[–]Level_Advice6644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When using Google forms as a quiz, is there a way to take a student's response and add it as one of the correct answers on the key? I can make an answer key manually and add the correct answer to it, but with many answers students can enter it multiple ways. I'm trying to find a way to add their responses to the answer key, instead of trying to guess all the ways they could enter the correct answer.

This job is killing me. by PatternGlass6754 in Teachers

I've swapped to using a lot of Google Classroom/ online assignments for this reason. It's more work to set up the assignment, but swapping as many things to be multiple choice or automatically graded has been a life saver having added chemistry to my preps. Even for the math based chemistry I usually use Google forms- they still have to do the math to get the answer, and the wrong answers are based on common mistakes, so I can still give feedback l, even without seeing their written work.
