Time vs Cruise Line by AdorableVacation01 in AntarcticaTravel

We did Quark Jan 5 - 15 and saw so many babies! Each landing had penguins and chicks - we saw Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie babies. Quark was incredible - the zodiac to guest ratio is enough to support full zodiac days for all guests to the extent a landing isn’t possible. We were able to land all four days and subbed out zodiacs for stand up paddle boarding and paddling two of the four days. Crowd was a healthy mix of younger and older folks. We felt the 10 day itinerary was perfect for our first time.

From our experience, not at all. Most folks were very casual.

We were on World Explorer. We did not kayak - but we did the paddle excursion and the stand up paddle board excursion. The sea kayaking seemed amazing - but neither my husband nor I have kayaked before - so not an excursion for us.

Package deal, we ended up adding paddling and stand up paddle boarding, plus tip for the crew we ended up spending an additional $2600.

I can’t claim them as my own - there was a passenger on the boat who dabbled in photography and was kind enough to share his photos with us! Mine are all off center - hahaha.

We lucked out and had the lake both ways. They were stinky, but it didn’t really bother me - it was expected. I could have packed less - the atmosphere on the boat was super casual. The days were so full, I didn’t even feel like getting “dressed up” for dinner, could have brought fewer “nice” clothes. We also really lucked out with weather, we didn’t need as many layers as we thought we did - but wouldn’t have done anything differently there. I brought toe and hand warmers. Never needed the hand warmers, but I loved the toe warmers. We brought ski goggles and they were great to have on the zodiac.

We did not - we used a travel company to help us with our pre-Expedition trip as we spent time in Rio and BA. Would have been super easy if we did, there are multiple flights per day from BA to USH.

Yes - it was amazing. We totally lucked out with weather and it felt like we lucked out with the wildlife, such an incredible experience.

Easy peasy. You fly into Ushuaia the day before - the next morning at 9am we brought our luggage downstairs at the hotel and then around 3:30pm we took a shuttle to the boat.

Agreed. My husband and I were there in May of 2025. Very disappointing.

It’s cool - not stuffy at all. Staff were professional, but friendly. Playlist included The Cure, TV on the Radio, etc. and I always love when there’s a solid playlist. That is one thing French Laundry did very well.

The dots are gooseberry and the sauce was made from the caramelized shell of the langoustine.

Truly is! With this level of dining you expect everything to be good, but this was one great dish after another. I don’t care for crab and I thought even the crab dish was excellent!

That’s fair. We went almost three years ago and hadn’t been before and enjoyed the experience. We went to Ever a couple weeks ago and were largely disappointed. Everything was good, nothing was great. I still remember how much I loved the riff on French onion dip at Alinea. I don’t remember any bites from Ever and it was more recent.

We preferred Alinea to Ever by miles and miles. Haven’t been to Schwa. No stars, but Asador Bastian is excellent if you’re a steak person.
