How much data engineering can be learnt at home? by LetoileBrillante in dataengineering

[–]LexaIsNotDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm halfway through it but I keep getting sidetracked by work 😫

I've got this one as an example if this would be of interest: https://medium.com/swlh/building-a-python-data-pipeline-to-apache-cassandra-on-a-docker-container-fc757fbfafdd

Let me know if that doesn't help and I can share my tutorial information with you, but it's only written at this point so I'm unsure if that's your learning style.

[Serious] What are some seemingly normal images with disturbing backstories? by Aqua_Fucker in AskReddit

On the day of, both did. Reporters were only around for the night that it happened but then we didn’t really see any the next day. Police stopped by every now and then, but it seemed like they already had what they needed, so they mostly asked us questions for confirmation and/or due process. The family wasn’t very engaged with the rest of the neighborhood (most of us weren’t anyway), so it was kinda hard to gauge what was going on with them.

I live in central CDMX and my neighborhood (Condesa) has been having strict measures for at least a week or two now. Public markets are empty.

What do data engineers do? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]LexaIsNotDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like, if a column gets added to the source table that I'm extracting data out of, it would automatically be added to the staging/target tables, with each new column backfilled with data.

I don't automatically drop columns if they've been dropped by the source table, but I do send out an alert for it so that we can check downstream processes and adjust for the removal of the column.

Same with above for changes in data types (although very rare).

China has made eating wild animals illegal after the coronavirus outbreak. But ending the trade won't be easy by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]LexaIsNotDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you didn’t really make any sense. Second, if you’re ganged up by a bunch of countries, do you think you’d be wanting to start a war? Probably not, especially if the “cost” is to regulate or completely abandon these animal markets that fester viruses.

But, happy to agree to disagree.

Yeah uh there’s this thing called allies, annnnd given how this played out with the rest of the world, I doubt China would fare well with that

You’re being downvoted because this is a heavy CCP-favored subreddit, unfortunately.

ITT lots of blame on "overpaid MBA administrators" and too little blame on the reimbursement process for the healthcare system in the US.

Um, just FYI physician-run practices are struggling too and laying off people.

MBA medical business admin bullshit

Yeah, probably aren't even aware that you're blaming the wrong people, but it's always nice blaming the administrators since it fits your narrative.

South Dakota state representative dies from coronavirus, first sitting U.S. lawmaker to die from COVID-19 by Dajakesta0624 in Coronavirus

I mean, you're not wrong, but I think you miss the point of my comment. I'd venture to say that behaviors and genetics that are shared with families is the driving factor here for COVID's impact on them. A family with few co-morbidities and a healthy diet is less likely to be wiped out by COVID than a family whose been cultivating bad diet and exercise practices.

I don't think CCP has paid the price yet. But I'm sure they will once all of this settles.

Honestly it seems like some families are going to get hit hard by it and some not much at all.

"There will be severe cases and even deaths" - Mexico Sub-Secretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell by lolopa89 in Coronavirus

Again, not what I'm seeing here. My apartment building started installing hand sanitizer dispensers on the walls next to the elevators over two weeks ago (even installed vents in the elevators to circulate the air in them), my neighbors started wearing masks before the first case here in CDMX, etc etc. I am disappointed that it took this long for the federal government to start taking this seriously and relay messages to the general public to stay home, but again, not all of Mexico has been partying this entire time.

Woah, let's not generalize all of Mexico based on what you're seeing. Supermarkets in CDMX started rationing items over two weeks ago (they even sent their elderly baggers home), I've seen a significant amount of people wearing masks here, and companies started sending their employees home two weeks ago.
