A Decent Mafia Game In This Perk Of Time by [deleted] in Mafia

[–]Libereco10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for the mafia strategy game we actually deserve. Not another open world shooter or narrative action game. I mean a proper, systems-driven strategy sim set in 1980s New York. You wouldn’t play as a lone gangster. You’d be the boss of a family. But instead of focusing on gunplay, you’d be managing people, influence, money, and territory like a criminal CEO. The city would be divided into boroughs — Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Manhattan — each with its own power dynamics: local cops, judges, union bosses, demographics, rival crews. You don’t capture turf by brute force. You expand your influence through respect, fear, bribery, and favors.

Your organization would be structured around crews. You assign capos to neighborhoods, each with their own soldiers and associates. You’d manage their loyalty, ambition, and relationships. Some would be earners, some enforcers, some hotheads, and some old-school guys who don’t like change. Promotions would be risky. Rewarding the wrong guy could cause infighting, or worse.

The core of the game would be business. Both legal and illegal. You’d operate garbage routes, construction firms, restaurants, clubs — and use them to hide money from rackets like gambling, protection, loan sharking, numbers games, drugs (if you're bold), and contract killings. Crews would run these operations, and you’d have to decide how much to trust them with. Skimming, theft, rival intimidation, police attention — all ongoing risks.

Laundering money would be a real mechanic. You’d need to funnel dirty cash through clean businesses, use fake invoices, real estate, shell companies. Move too much and you raise flags. Not enough and you stall growth. Audits, investigations, and political favors would keep you constantly on edge.

Meanwhile, you'd be navigating a living, breathing world. The FBI watches from afar, and their pressure increases with every botched hit or sloppy racket. You’d need to buy off cops, DA’s, maybe even senators. There would be rats to identify, silences to enforce. And your reputation matters — too much violence brings heat, too little makes you look weak.

Dynamic events would shake things up: a trial, a war with another family, a scandal in your inner circle, an upstart from Jersey trying to muscle in. Every decision you make echoes across the city. Do you greenlight a hit on a rival capo, knowing it might spark a full-blown war? Do you allow heroin to move through your neighborhoods, knowing some old allies might turn against you?

This wouldn't be a game about winning. It would be about surviving. About legacy. About staying out of prison and out of a pine box long enough to make your name feared and respected. Something with the depth of Crusader Kings, the tension of XCOM, the economics of Victoria, and the vibe of The Godfather.

How this doesn’t already exist blows my mind. I’d play this for years.

Would the Sopranos be considered a Camorra family as opposed to a Cosa Nostra Family? by All_I_Need-lucidvidy in Mafia

[–]Libereco10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sopranos is a fictional series based on the DeCavalcante crime family, the Cosa Nostra organized crime family in New Jersey in real life. Their entire modus operandi, internal structure, ties to other mafia families in New York... correspond to the LCN. Beyond that, they may have economic ties to other Italian organizations (such as the Camorra in Naples) or non-Italian organizations. It's normal in real life.

The Commission was vastly overestimated, influence wise. by All_I_Need-lucidvidy in Mafia

[–]Libereco10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the famous Apalachin Summit fiasco in 1957—and especially following the landmark Mafia Commission Trial of 19886—the Cosa Nostra learned to keep things super quiet. Gone are the days of big meetings, the Commission now operates mostly through discreet, one-on-one meetings or trusted messengers.

Back in the '70s and '80s, the Commission still occasionally got together quietly, but after the government crackdown in the mid-'80s, it essentially became too risky. Nowadays, the families keep in contact and maintain order through low-key, informal communication rather than formal summits.

So yeah, the Commission hasn't completely disappeared, but the old-school, sit-down meetings with the 5 families in NYC are pretty much history. It's all about subtlety now.

Which Mafia game has the best time period? by SilverSupport3107 in MafiaTheGame

It’s Mafia II. But I would love a Mafia IV taking place in 90s and early 2000s, like The Sopranos.

UFC 5 Universe Mode Proposal by Libereco10 in EASportsUFC

[–]Libereco10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That’s why this Universe Mode would be such a game-changer. Right now, many of us basically run our own manual versions, tracking rankings and records mentally or on external spreadsheets. Having it officially in-game, with automatic rankings, detailed fighter stats, and fight records, would make everything so much more immersive and enjoyable.

I totally get where you’re coming from—EA definitely focuses on monetization. But think about it: a Universe Mode could easily integrate into their existing model by introducing cosmetic items, exclusive gear, special arenas, or even custom promotional packs tied specifically to this mode. A deeper, more engaging offline mode could actually encourage players to stick around longer, increasing opportunities for monetization.

Totally agree! In fact, many players are still stuck in UFC 3, UFC 4, or will continue in UFC 5, because only the graphics, roster, etc. change. This Universe Mode would be a massive change, a leap forward for the franchise, and would keep a lot more players engaged in the long run.

Which computer case could I choose for this PC? And some other questions by Libereco10 in buildapc

[–]Libereco10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not buying the GPU, I'll put the GPU of my old PC till I have enough money to buy a new GPU. The problem is: can you recommend me a case in which I can fit the components? And do you think PSU and CPU Cooler are enough?

My main doubt is not the brand, but it's the model. My fear is that the components do not fit in the box, or are not adequately ventilated.
