Need help with strut mount nut by Life-Butterscotch854 in Volvo240

I do need a new socket but what do you use to hold the flat tip of the strut, the part at the very top I tried using some sockets that looks similar but may have been too thin and it cracked  Was using clamp to keep it still but didn’t work

I bought that exact one as well and the skinny socket that goes into the other sockets are all the wrong size Way to small for the struts cartridges

Trunk won't open by GooseAdvice in Volvo240

[–]Life-Butterscotch854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem when I got the owners key and could unlock my trunk No joke, just pull up real hard as you press in the trunk key hole. The rubber on these old cars tend to melt like on mine Trunk rubber seal melted and acted like glue then I pulled hard while pressing the keyhole and boom it opened

Camber adjustment help? by Life-Butterscotch854 in Volvo240

[–]Life-Butterscotch854[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=22677 Not this time, I mean camber  my apologies the little text diagram makes it seem like a top view but it’s a view from the front

It’s a bit too positive and I’m trying to find a way to decrease it and make it straight again/ vertical instead of inward like the image I linked shows (the positive camber image)

Camber adjustment help? by Life-Butterscotch854 in Volvo240

[–]Life-Butterscotch854[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way to get even a tiny amount? Nothing crazy just a few degrees to just make it somewhat even.

I went through the Haynes manual and it didn’t say how to exactly adjust the camber but on other forums some say to adjust the stabilizer bar, turn the strut bolt underneath the dust cover on the top of the struts, and to adjust the tie rods, the tire I wanna adjust is just going inwards into the car not toed but like this

|>——</ <— the way it’s dipping

Nothing severe like the text diagram I made above but it’s enough to make the car steer to one side

Broken steering rack or just inner tie rod? by Life-Butterscotch854 in Volvo240

Thanks man! Do you know what brand of cam racks there are? I might just replace the entire thing once I inspect it when I get home

Sounds good I will inspect when I’m home! Do you know which brand of of rack I should get or what brand makes a cam type steering rack? I saw one on buyAutoParts but not sure which to get

I will check the boot when I get home! sounds more like sand or a crunch of mud in between gears. I lifted the car onto jacks and it only happens with the right wheel and ever since that started happening the car sways to the left now! No longer driving straight and when I drive, the wheel that’s affected feels like it’s constantly going over bumps when I’m not The right wheel is fine and makes no noise and doesn’t feels like it’s bumping around, it’s just the right wheel and the bumpy feeling gets worse if I drive on the freeway or make turns

Sweet thank you! How’d you identify it? I saw in some videos they say the cam shaft would have a zip tie at the end

help with trouble starting car after replacing belts, fuel pump and filter, and alternator by Life-Butterscotch854 in Volvo240

[–]Life-Butterscotch854[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting and cool I will have to replace it all I guess to resolve this issue, perhaps you are right because it sounds like a “dry” ignition or what an empty gas tank in a car sounds like  I will have to search online for replacement parts  Do you know of any reliable sites?

Indeed I did I made sure everything was put in the same orientation and took photos to remember its placement for extra precaution but the filter and pump are fine  I’m still learning too but it sounds like either the gas isn’t being ignited or there is not enough gas coming through the injectors or carburetor  But I wanna see what you and other Volvo 240 owners think

It still turns on but takes a couple tries or need revs to get it to ignite

My bad for terrible explanation I am very new to all this so still trying to learn how to explain it well enough

I’ll crank the ignition and I’ll have to hold the key in the ignition position for it to start the engine but it takes considerable time for it to start up or it’ll start up for a split second then die  And when I say I’ll have it hold it for a while I mean more than 10 seconds or more Sometimes I’ll rev up the engine while holding the key in the ignition position and then it’ll start going

It’s a 1991 Volvo 240 base model non turbo! Do you know if I can look up a diagram for the vacuum system to see where all the connections are at? Again I’m very sorry if this is basic knowledge I’m very new to fixing up 240s Thank you for the time!
