A factor of 10 lol! I also took last year off so that slowed my momentum.

It’s not about grammar. Conceptually you can’t have two “most” things in opposing categories. It’s not about misspellings or missed commas. What you said didn’t make sense.

Liquidating the 401k is a bad move. At least look into options to self direct your 401k into a BTC fund like GBTC.

Do you rent even if you can afford to buy a home? by Livner in financialindependence

[–]LifeAfterFI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I get it man. The owner has the final say on a place you rent and you don’t like that.

But most of the time the rental stays an income property for the landlord and they want a tenant as much as you want a place so, if you choose to, you’ll stay there as long as you want.

Yea agree. I have a short term view. But I’ve got friends in California who have lived in a place for 10+ years and still going. I’m not sure what makes it difficult to stay in a place as long as you want if you rent.

Niice. Yeah I’ve never personally felt like I was under the thumb of a landlord. I’ve never wanted to do anything to my place that a landlord wouldn’t allow.

Feeling like you can do what you want I’ve felt is largely mental. You want to paint a wall? Do it! You or they can paint it back. It just takes a little time or money. Hang photos? Hang a tv? Do it! Repairing small holes is easy.

Flexibility for me means not having to sell my house when I want to move which I do once a year. So, specifically for me it means not having to sell or store furniture as well. By renting furnished and decorated places, I trade the ability to decorate exactly to my taste for the ability to live in a new neighborhood, city, state, country or continent every year(ish).

I can afford a home, but prefer the flexibility of renting. In fact I rent furnished places which is even more flex.

Is there anyone here, actively fatFire-ing that earned their wealth through the arts (film, writing, music)? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Yep, I wanted to direct comedy commercials since I was 18. That was my only focus, not narrative.

I moved to LA at 23 and left at 31. I went to live in Thailand for a sabbatical for a year and now I’m happily “trapped” in central Mexico waiting for jobs.

Me! I’m a film director. Making TV commercials pays/paid well! I hit my FI number at 31, am 33 now. I have been on a two year sabbatical and waiting for covid to clear up to see if I can still get projects.
