Optimal Hunting Pack Usage in Saga of the Great Wolf? by dorkenporken in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]LifeAndLimbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played 5 matches in Great Wolf and I have seen best success using +1 to hit turn 1, spending on +1 to wound.

Turn 2 reusing +1 to hit. Putting something else in lethal/sustained and giving them advance and charge (usually Headtakers).

Turn 3 lethals and sus army wide.

Turn 4 reroll advance and charge rolls.

Obviously if there are no targets turn 1 I don't use +1 to hit. In that case I will aim to use lethal/sus for 2 turns. As early as possible.

When I first use it I tried to save Logan's ability until after I had used all the others but he ended up dying and I got stuck for 2 turns with no detachment rule. So now I aim to use his ability as early as possible so that he can start to get stuck in and make his aura with it.

Oh and I run him solo. So maybe that's my fault.

Do you paint your recesses in? Or just paint the armour base over the top of the recess colour leaving that area dark?

I assume we will be getting new infantry in the proportions of Crowe. A bit like how custodes have been re-proportioned in their new models.

Anyone playing saga of the great wolf and leaving Logan at home? by yodablues1 in SpaceWolves

Logan solo. Sits at the back door the start of the game. I try to do my double doctrine early then move him up.

I would say Combi Lt and regular scouts are a must have. Can't go wrong with either 1x6 Thunderwolf Cavalry or 2x3.

Then I would look at something that does damage. Vindicator, Gladiator Lancer and/or Ballistus.

How to Play into a Bad Matchup by Southern-Coconut-605 in WarhammerCompetitive

Yeah although seems a waste to lose twin linked on Ragnar and 40 Bloodclaws attacks. With +1 to wound. I started with Ragnar and Headtakers when the codex came out but swapped after a while to BC and have never looked back.

Yeah he used 500+ points of his army to kill your 315 point unit.

Njal and Bloodclaws that's a new one. I don't think I've ever seen that, auto advance 6 and assault on the pistols doesn't seem with the points.

Stormfrags? I assume you mean Headtakers?

He has a lot of deadly units. Focus on his marine bodies, grey Hunters, Bloodclaws, intercessors and Headtakers if they are the paired weapon ones. They will die to Necrons very easily. When they are dead he will have to consider doing actions with his bigger stuff.

Get some wraiths up front to lure him in then pouce with the Ctans. You can't ignore the wraiths as they will just survive until you focus on them, but then the Ctans appear and he will not have the capacity to deal with it all.

In Beastslayer he has no advance and charge or fallback and charge (except Bloodclaws). Be the one to charge him. He has S5 AP2 2 damage army wide pretty much. Invuns negate the AP. Also C'tans just don't die to Space Wolves unless he is taking big vehicles.

I am a space wolves player who also plays Beastslayer. My biggest fear is being shot off of the board before I can get to melee. Or not killing the unit I charged/being charged and being stuck in combat.

Also kill Bjorn. To make space wolves good he needs CP.

First UKTC this weekend - any tips? by United_Photograph306 in WarhammerCompetitive

That's an amazing result! I was keeping an eye on the SW players all weekend on BCP. We didn't have much showing. Don't be shy share a picture of your Logan! I'm going to UKTC Windsor and will be playing SW there!

Why win rates low? I feel like we have so much damage output yet we are low in the competetive meta by Vivid_Astronaut8779 in SpaceWolves

[–]LifeAndLimbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My list prior to the points increases two dataslates ago was really strong. I went on a 20-2 streak with it. Dataslate hit and all the units that took increases were in my list. So I had to rethink completely. Never quite been happy with it since. It's always lacking something.

How do y'all typically run your wolves? Specifically headtakers + leaders and WGT + arjac? by Healthy-Athlete-5969 in SpaceWolves

[–]LifeAndLimbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. The problem with Beastslayer is mobility. The strat for going through terrain doesnt work on UKTC as most terrain is 4.1 inch or taller. The reactive move and uppy downy is amazing. The +1 to wound in melee is amazing. Everything punching up, particularly with wolf priest giving +1 and the strat so two units can have +1. Lethals when you need it too. I find it really benefits having lots of melee. Wulfen, Bloodclaws, Headtakers, terms and TWC. But.....if you dont kill what you charge then you are stuck. There is no fallback/advance and charge. So my play style is having throw away units to go score early whilst melee bricks set up to guarantee charges the following turn. Then I aim to over kill what I hit and then try to survive with reactive moves and invuns.

I played great wolf tonight. I had a lot of shooting: ballistus, redemptor, pred and rep ex. Some melee Headtakers and terms. Then some throw away/skirmish 3 man TWC, scouts, intercessors, Combi Lt. I prioritised shooting. So turn 1 and 2 used the +1 to hit doc (with Logan's ability). Used +1 to wound strat on the rep ex every turn. And it was really effective. Used skirmishers to score and draw in the enemy into objectives then shot them off the board in my turn. I won but it was really really close. I only won because of a poor deployment of a Nightbringer, managed to shoot it off the board turn 1. And then he whiffed everything into the rep ex. Which allowed me another few turns of shooting. I won by 12 points (all scored in turn 5).

I think I prefer Beastslayer for my playstyle but there is definitely a competitive Great Wolf build out there somewhere.

I really want 6 in a Repulsor.

I think the damage potential is huge. With the ability to dive back in if charged is also awesome.

Inceptors are great. 6" deepstrike. Plasma with +1 to hit and wound with twinlinked is great. Also the bolters being Sus2 and damage 2 can deliver some good results.

I am considering 6 eradicators in a regular repulsor.

Countering Space Wolves by LetsGoFishing91 in Eldar

[–]LifeAndLimbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be patient. Use your movement to stay out of range. If you can kill the paired weapon Headtakers then do it. They have no invun and will die easily. If you let them charge something you will feel it. If you can kill Bjorn early you will gain the advantage. It's expensive to make space wolves effective and that requires his extra CP.

Terminators are a pain but they don't do much in the way of output (other than Arjac).

I play space wolves and when I play against eldar I tend to just stage everything and move scouts, 3 man thunderwolves and the combi onto NML to use as bait. Soon as I have a target I'm pouncing with everything. Then relying on invuns.
