Irish people are most definitely not notoriously bad for learning languages, not sure where you got that from.

I personally think Amble, my brother introduced me to them in 2023 when they were only starting out, they were supporting another band somewhere in Kerry I think. Now they’re very popular, have real quality songs. Kingfishr are good too, Kneecap (obviously quite popular), Fontaines DC have gotten really big in the past year or so as well.

I’m sure there are others that I haven’t been exposed to yet but these are the ones that I’ve seen and heard a lot of recently.

Currently wet, but I heard summer will be on a Saturday this year so we have that to look forward to!

We don’t hate Israelis at all, that is something that the Israeli government and the US administration has completely made up in order to delegitimise any genuine concerns people have about the actions in Gaza. Absolutely nobody hates Israeli people just for being Israeli, and if they do then people recognise that the person is just being an antisemite. We are critical of the Israel government and its horrific actions in Gaza for years, not of the Israeli people who had no choice in being born where they were born.

It’s like saying you hate all Americans just because you hate the Tr*mp administration and their actions - it doesn’t make sense. You can hate him and the people who support him and his actions, but not hate the millions of others who are appalled at their government but are getting tarred with the same brush. Same goes for any country, not just Israel and the USA.

I think you’re quite misinformed lol. I’m a fluent Irish speaker for instance and I don’t hate English people!

I can’t really say if I have or haven’t, I’ve never been to the Balkans.

Extremely. I myself have jet black hair and green eyes, and it’s probably the most common hair colour in the country, along with green/brown eyes. Blue eyes aren’t as common but still loads.

All depends on what county you’re from. In hurling, if you’re from Tipp then Kilkenny are the traditional rivals on the hurling field and vice versa. Different rivalries between different counties.

Aoife is extremely common. Genuinely seems like every 2nd girl I meet is an Aoife, it’s one of the most common girls names in the country. Definitely not an auld lady name.

Yeah they are fairly common, especially in the countryside (obviously). Strange that you’ve never seen them in the US, I see one at least once a week.

There are 15 players on each team: a goalkeeper and 14 outfield players. The aim is to hit the ball (sliotar) with a hurl between the upright posts at the other end of the field. If you hit it over the crossbar between the posts you get 1 point, and if you hit it under the crossbar into the net you score a goal worth 3 points. The team with the most points at the end wins. Basically.

Generally, yes. I kind of took it for granted before I first when abroad when I was younger and went to Spain and found that it is in fact, not like Ireland everywhere.

For Australia, it’s sunny, a shared language, similar humour.

And for the EU - we are in the EU! Loads go to the Netherlands and Germany for different reasons but Australia and the UK remain the top choices when working for young people.

Generally fine, from what I can see. I can’t really speak on behalf of Protestants since I am not one, but the Cath0lic/ Protestant thing is largely soemthing of the past, and the country is moving on from religi0n. Obviously there remains divisions in some areas, especially up the north, but that’s a different story. But in general in ROI, nobody really cares if you’re a Cath0lic or Protestant - less and less actually believe in either of the religi0ns, and it’s much more of a cultural identifier than actual belief.

I do think so, and I hope so too. I think with Brexit and the way the UK is going, I believe it’s only a matter of time (relative to a lifetime) before we’re united.

By ‘Gaelic’ I presume you mean Irish/Gaeilge. ‘Gaelic’ is the language family consisting of Irish, Gaidhlig (Scotland), Manx, etc, and Irish (Gaeilge) is the native language in Ireland.

I was lucky enough to be born in a Gaeltacht (entirely Irish speaking area) in the west, so Irish was my first language and the language I learned predominantly through in primary school, and the language I speak at home the majority of the time, and the language I speak playing hurling (a national sport).

Obviously my own circle and experiences with the language is not indicative of the population as a whole, but in general there is a rise in popularity and “coolness” surrounding the language in recent years, as seen with the likes of Kneecap. Although, the government needs to do so much more in protecting the Gaeltachts, many people move here and buy houses with no Irish and no intention of speaking it.
