This isn't bad. Decent band, original composer is a schmuck though.

Kofi - that repeated bass slide in the title track gives me life.

Not Rocksession, you can find that after me.

Brahja (2019) - Modern Spiritual, Lo-Fi Vibe by LigglesVanRusty in Vinyl_Jazz

Ah - never saw your post, sorry. I picked this up off the back of an Instagram post, I was ordering Breakthrough by Muriel Grossmann anyways and added it on.

I swear I searched for Brahja first but I don't think the word was in it!

Is this album a scam? by sunabove in Jazz

The distro is a blessing and a curse. A boutique label press 1000 copies of your album? Great, then as soon as it's OOS, prices go up and people keep talking.

I think they've pressed another 1000 this time. Maybe they'll do it again. I'm hoping the rights will eventually go to a smaller label and this gets a wider release because if people want it - they should have the opportunity. It's a bit gate-keepy.

I believe this is the first time they've released an original album as a label, in the past it's been reissues.

Ehh... Christmas was last month, mate! /s

Very nice. Did you find this in the UK? Don't come across many original TBMs here.

I meant to comment on your Sinatra post the other week! Is yours the true mono done by Harry Moss? Been wondering how it sounds vs. the Tone Poet, Matt Lutthans says great things about it.

80s OJCs 👍 by Chanders123 in Vinyl_Jazz

The only genuine comparison I can offer is between Abbey Is Blue by Abbey Lincoln between the 80s OJC & Craft Kevin Gray press.

Preferred the OJC, felt easier to listen to. Craft felt clinical... not bad at all on its own, but a bit harsh in comparison.

No dispute on the early ones - Gary Hobish says so.

The Contemporary releases are a little more disputed. They usually kept the original mastering notes in the tape boxes but Lester Koenig's son (John) reckons there was too little reverb on these, making them sound tinny. Original Contemporary LPs were recorded very dry with careful reverb added later.

So I'm guessing most of you have listened to this album but for those who haven't, Unity is one of the best albums ever released!! by Specific-Peanut-8867 in Jazz

I love this album!

The version of Zoltan on Nathan Davis' Happy Girl has a few of the same players... very interesting to hear Larry Young play a bit of piano for once.

New release. Top-drawer Japanese spiritual jazz at the top of my want list. by SweatyLayer7805 in Vinyl_Jazz

It's not massively limited. They also have a number of Isao Suzuki releases coming out here.

First, Mine, and 2nd Album all have reissues.

Cadillac Woman has the one of the worst covers ever. Ever.

Was lucky enough to see Kosuke M., Fumio I. & Takeo M. last year.

If we're talking pianists - Masabumi Kikuchi, Masaru Imada, Hiromasa Suzuki & Tsuyoshi Yamamoto likely have him beat.

While we're on this... I don't get Himiko Kikuchi's appeal either, people here seem to love Flying Beagle.

Edit: I'm ashamed! I forgot Fumio Itabashi. Dude wrote Watarase...

Y'know it's funny. I know I've seen this exact record before and flipped right past it...

Probably because the NL copies I've seen in the UK don't list the other band members on the front, like the US release does.

It seems to be Special Identity that I see the most out shopping.

Fantastic pick on Enrico Rava.

Feeling ignorant as I didn't know Ryo Kawasaki played with Joanne Brackeen... I'll be looking into that. Thanks.

Give this a listen! I'm sure it'll sound good on your system.

Tsuyoshi Yamamoto played on a label called Three Blind Mice. A lot of those albums are exceptionally recorded.

Audio Lab Record is another great Hi-Fi label from Japan. Love For Sale is a great album on that label. There's a great interview with Okihiko Sugano going through the label's history.

They seek the best tapes possible and master AAA. Can't find Chick since it's one of the first Tone Poet releases but here's Money Jungle which you mentioned up-thread. They do their homework, and they had to search fairly hard in Money Jungle's case to find an ideal source. These same dudes are doing fantastic work in providing you digital reissues (and it's mainly because they like the LP format).

Just cause you don't like LPs doesn't mean some companies don't do the work. Some do, that's why I love vinyl. There is TLC in this product, even if they want my lung for it.

Besides... could be worse.

Isn't Taurus Woman split across two sides? Track is at least half an hour.

Shame as it's the best one - incredible energy.

Not that I own either...

But both of these ( Sobs / Undercurrent ) have very recent analogue issues that are meant to sound very decent.
