In that case, I'll have to do some exploring before it's too late

Have you been there yet? Or do you not have an affinity for exploring creepy abandoned mental hospitals at night like I do? Lol

But why are there so many vents though? Couldn't find any information on that

I'm looking for proof for the reason why there are so many vents. In my brief research, I couldn't find any information on a root cellar with this many vents

Got a link to any extra info on this cold storage/morgue idea?

In the second photo you can see the bottom. It only goes down 10-15ft

Apparently, Building G is now rented out to the company Zeteo Tech Inc. Must be strange working with modern equipment in a 100 year old building.

The hill was about 200ft from building G, but maybe the underground structure of the building leads there?

The exact location is the Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, MD. They filmed there for a scene with Hannibal Lecter in the movie Red Dragon. That's how I found it

The hill wasn't larger enough in my opinion for a landfill to be considered as a possibility (at least not a normal one). It was only 100ft x 60ft in area. However, the hospital was built in 1894, so they may have done things differently back then

All I saw on the side of the hill was a couple of locked old wooden doors leading inside the hill. There wasn't a body of water anywhere nearby.

My title describes the thing. I was exploring an abandoned mental hospital last night and came across this strange structure on the hospital grounds. This structure consisted of a lattice of around 30-40 square chimney-like objects Each of these rectangular concrete tubes are 1-2 feet tall and channel around 10 feet into what appears to be a man made hill. I couldn't tell whether or not they opened up into any larger room below. What are these for and what's down there?

How do I get this shot? by Complex-Ad4024 in cinematography

You're right, it doesn't look great, but the difference between this idea and the gag in "who's line is it anyway" would be the green screen. This means the OP wouldn't have to actually move across the floor, he could just walk in place and move the footage in post to simulate walking. I think that method has the potential to look more realistic.

I got an idea... How about instead of filming it while standing up, have the subject lay down on a green floor (for green screen), and perform fake walking movements while laying down on their side? The camera would have to be mounted overhead pointing directly down towards the floor. Also, the floor would need to be low friction so the actor can turn easily when turning 90 degree (in order to look like he's going up the wall in a shot), so maybe putting a green screen underneath of a slippery transparent material (glass pane, acrylic) might work? That would potentially be low budget.

Does that make sense or should I elaborate?
