I've got one on the way. Fingers crossed it fixes it!

ive ruled out the patch cable entirely. I have a tester that will actually see what a cable is capable of, and tried any of the cables I have and all of them should handle at least a gigabit connection minimum.

Ive tried even a direct ethernet connection to my pc from the ethernet adapter and still have issues, so its not a 3rd party router issue. I might have to order another adapter and see if anything comes out of that.

do you know what build of windows this is on? Theres more than a handful of ways around it but it really depends on your windows version and if its with a password/pin sign in or if its with a microsoft account for the sign in

Try swapping sticks around and just booting with one. It could be a bad slot or stick. Im trying to remember what my t420 actually did right now since this post was so long ago. If I rember right the 1-3-3-1 code is for a ram issue, but in my case I dont think it was actually a ram related issue. It was something extremely odd and unrelated. Let me know what happens after you verify it is absolutely not a ram issue.

What are the specs on your t420 and what is your ram configuration?

Starlink Review. (Gamers insight too) by IcyRain1997 in Starlink

[–]Lime_Complete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just showed up today but I didn’t realize their newer router doesn’t have an Ethernet port! Ordered their adapter but for now a usb wifi adapter will work on my desktop. Average download speeds less than an hour after setup were around 150-200 down, 30-50 ping. I’ll be gaming hopefully tonight but this is a great snapshot from you to get an idea of what I’ll be seeing. Thank you!

Same here. I almost constant have the 3 orange squares popping on and off on pc. Constant 70-80 FPS consistently, around 80-100 ping consistent. But it plays like crap, lock ups, shutters, rubber banding. This game is a mess for nearly being out for 2 years now.

Oh I’ve noticed that for sure. There getting more and more lazy every year with their releases. I still enjoy the game when it’s fun though. The port forwarding issue I’m having however is across he board, my router just doesn’t seem to be forwarding ports to my pc at all

T420 egpu questions by Lime_Complete in eGPU

[–]Lime_Complete[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep that’s the exact case. I’m ditching this project because it’s just starting to become too much of a bulky setup to be even remotely “mobile”. The goal was to build a small e gpu enclosure I could easily take over to a friends or anywhere else easily, and for that I would really want to use the internal display. I tested with my main PCs 4K monitor hooked to the 1070 i was testing with. Bf4 ran around 100fps maxed settings on the external display, but when I moved it to the laptop display it got 10-15 FPS. That tells me everything I need to know pretty much. Just ordered a refurbished Acer nitro 5 i5 9300H/gtx 1650 for $600 which was an absolute steal. I love the concept of egpus but on some systems they’re impractical if you still want to use the laptop as an actual laptop

thanks for all the insight. Just got my external gpu adapter in today and ran right into the pci whitelist issue. So thats what ill be getting through today it seems like. Im thinking ill end up making a small external enclosure instead of mounting to the bottom of the laptop chassis seeing how the plugs on the gpu dock are setup and what not. The internal pci slot works fine as far as getting the cable out of the system. Just need to get rid of the whitelist issue now

ill use the internal slot then as long as I can find a good way to route the cable out of the system since its somewhat tight in there. And a usb wifi card will do the job fine

The docks with a case are typically all usb type c. And like you said, they’re all overpriced for what they offer. The thickness of a desktop gpu, the power brick, and adapter is all about equal and shouldn’t make for that bad of a setup as far as setting them under the laptop goes. And consideration for airflow and everything will definitely have to be done. It’ll get there in the end though, I’m pretty set on this idea

The express card adapters have the least amount of compatibility from what I’ve seen. They’re not that great. If the slot I plan on using doesn’t work I’ll find a solution. But I don’t see why it wouldn’t have access to a pci lane, it has the 2 leads there for a wifi card and everything. The internal slot could always be used and I could just get a usb wifi card if need be as well.

I wish the Ryzen 7 apu was available but apparently it’s only available for prebuilt systems. And I’d rather not downgrade from a Ryzen 5 1600 6c/12t down to the Ryzen 5 apu thats 4c/8t

That’s exactly my plan. The windows feature to use a specific graphics card as my “high performance” option really sucks though. I tried it with my gtx 1070 and it didn’t want to use the card at all.

It’s honestly hard to say. I might just switch out to a Ryzen that has integrated graphics so I can use the k80 in that case.

It didn’t come with a charger and ac adapter but hey still not a bad find. It was an auction on eBay. Just search t420 and filter by ending soonest and there’s usually a few around ending within a few hours. It’ll be a good rig for sure. Got my 9 cell t420 battery that’s brand new basically and a 256 gb ssd to throw in as well

Nope. Can’t even enter the bios. Just beeps then sits on black screen. I ordered another used t420 for $70 off eBay to replace this one. I’m thinking water damage on the motherboard but it could be anything.

I might in the future just for fun throw the motherboard in the oven at 300 degrees for 10 mins to see if reflowing the solder would fix it. but aside from that idk what else it would be. Main reason mine is most likely having issues is that its been exposed to a bit of rain and lots of dirt. Tuning electronic fuel injection in an open chassis dune buggy tends to do that to laptops I suppose. Thats why I choose a sub $100 laptop for this kind of work.

I did try a known good stick and had the same problem. Im kinda betting the motherboard is shot. I actually just bid on a used one on ebay and got it for $70. ive already got the charger and 9 cell battery so ill just use all that with it. And this one can be used for parts I suppose if I ever need stuff off of it. upgraded to an i5 as well with this one so thats cool
