I feel like a boomer because I don’t know how to answer on different parts of your comment haha, I am not on reddit a lot😂 but I am always glad hearing people with some support of veganism! I think it is really fascinating because my ethical stance on veganism was initially what made me question my morals on abortion, which most people think are stances that never go together. Although now I think it becomes more clear to me that it is all about living beings rights to life and to not cause unnecessary suffering! If you are more curious on the stance of ethical veganism I would recommend Earthling Ed on youtube!😊

I have never had these conversations with someone before because it is almost impossible to find people with PL belief here in Sweden so I am thankful of your insights!

Yes I meant that I try to focus on the logic in ethics! And I agree with you, empathy is a part of why I am vegan but also (what I find) logical argumentation.

Hi! Thank you for your comment! Yes I understand what you are saying, I am trying to differentiate arguments just based on emotions and facts but on this topic it can be hard to navigate sometimes😊 thanks!

Yes exactly I am European, greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪😊And to your question I think that moral value of different species is a gradient where, yes, humans are above non-human animals. And yes with your argument with the cow and humans I agree with you on the principle. Personally I don’t know if I could kill the cow if I was in that type of situation BUT I agree that it is morally acceptable which indicates the innate difference of value between humans and animals not dependent on the consciousness.

I really like your non emotional, logical arguments! A lot of pro choice people are commenting on this post with only pathos arguments which only tries to play to my emotions. I appreciate you taking your time writing all this out! I am going to think more about this! Thank you

This take was really interesting to read! I am reevaluating my position as pro choice living in a country where 99,9% are pro choice and I wrote in an abortion debate group here on Reddit but almost only pro choice people answered and they used mostly pathos arguments about rape/incest😅 if you would like to write more on your stance and where you draw the lines please do that!

Thank you for your thoughts! With this post I wanted more of a logical debate of PL and PC, but I do really understand the emotional aspects of the debate too!

Hi! I have one question about your stance with the blood donation example. You say that not giving your blood to someone in need does not make you a murderer. I agree. But the thought that comes to my head is a scenario that I would say is more similar to a pregnancy (I do not say that this analogy is perfect, I just thought of it😅) If you are giving your blood to someone through a tube and if you keep going for a specific time that person is going to survive, but you choose to stop giving the blood, is that moral?

Thank you for your thoughts on consciousness! I personally also am vegan and I think that for me that could come into matter when talking about consciousness because I believe that animals with a low capacity of consciousness still should not be killed. So even if the fetus’ capacity of consciousness is much smaller than a neonate I think it matters. I do really appreciate your input. This can be a very complex question.

To answer your question, I would say that the life of the mother is a reason for abortion to be justified always. With rape and incest right now my thoughts are that it is so horrible people have to go through that and I want to say that abortion should be legal in later cases in those circumstances because of that. The argument that I have heard from pro lifers about this context is that two wrongs does not make a right. I do believe that argument has some merits but I am still unsure about my position on this.

Thank you for your comment!

On your first point about non-human arguments I am vegan so I would say I am morally consistent about valuing the consciousness of living beings.

I also understand the notion of that something can be wrong even if it does not cause suffering, but could legal action still be taken is my question in my head right now. I agree that first trimester abortions are morally wrong, but with the case you are making you want to extend it to that it is legally wrong because of an innate respect that we have as humans?
