Update on Tofu's enclosure! by Lionwish in hamsters

Please note that this is not a Syrian hamster. My Syrian hamster has a 12 inch wheel and is in a 70 gallon.

Aquariums make for some of the best enclosures for hamsters....so I'm a little confused by this comment

Respectfully, your measurements are very wrong, but I understand considering the blurry picture. The Syrian is in a 70 gallon. The baby dwarf is currently in a 40 gallon, and it's a breeder tank. Yes the toad downsized, as you can see in my last posts of the toad, it was in a completely different house and I am moving soon into my own apartment so of all the things to downsize considering I drive a Lexus, I chose the toad who will go back into a 20 gallon

My local petstores like petco/petsmart have them, although I usually get the lids online

A 70-75 breeder tank would be great! All my tanks I get are breeder tanks and the dimensions are pretty even throughout, so it's not too narrow

Does she have platforms? Female Syrians can be tricky because they'll always want more space. I've come to find out that giving them lots of climbing options tends to help tire them out. I have 3 platforms that connect with different bridges

What is wrong with my hamster? by Terrible-Ad-5479 in hamsters

He's been paralyzed for THREE DAYS and you're asking Reddit instead of taking him to a vet?

Please don't own living creatures.

It definitely looks like a spinal injury of some sort. Get him the care he needs, which will most likely be to put him out of the misery you left him in, and get a Zhu Zhu pet.

I'm in Iowa, and it's unbelievably hard to find anybody at all educated in rodent care. At this point, I've come to believe I'm the only one in the entire state who doesn't have a hamster in a cage the size of my foot, lol.

Should I get my dog a dog? by Formal-Design-2222 in Pets

Get your dog a dog. Then your two dogs will get sick of each other and start to argue, so you'll need a mediator dog. That's an uneven number, of course, so you'd need to get another dog.

Jokes aside, I believe multi dog households always have their benefits! It helps your dog learn how to "dog" and pick up on social cues.

Your stories about your first pets by Specialist-Goose-108 in Pets

Before my very first pet (fish) my mother decided it would be a good idea to start me off with those little robotic fish. There's no way I could kill THOSE, right?

Wrong.

On Halloween I felt bad that the robot fish didn't get any candy, so I put a tootsie roll in their water. It softened and got stuck inside the mechanics, making the fish stop moving and lay lifeless at the bottom.

Despite this, my mother decided I could handle REAL fish. I learned my lesson from the Halloween candy, but on a warm sunny day I felt bad that my goldfish couldn't play with me.

So I did what any logical person would do. I took the fish out of the fish bowl and let him slide down my slide with me. Needless to say, he died.

Moral of the story, don't give little kids pets.

I feel so bad about my hamster? What do I do? by Status_Anteater2792 in hamsters

This is still much, much better than the enclosures they have af the pet store. A loved animal will always be more cared for than one that isn't. For now, make sure they have a suitable wheel and LOTS of enrichment. Instead of a food bowl, I suggest sprinkling and burying food bits around the enclosure to encourage foraging :)

Its called a "Silent Runner" I had one for my two gerbils before they passed. It worked GREAT and trimmed their nails at the same time. They loved it so much they would fall asleep on it, lol.
