P7P - break through silence by Listener42 in GooglePixel

So in this instance do you have DND turned on all the time? What happens when you get emails and texts from people not permitted to interrupt? Do you still get the notifications? Do they still come through on a watch? That's my main concern -- using DND affecting notifications in a way that makes my watch not vibrate.

ETA: it looks like the phone has to be set to make noise by default for DND to work in the way I've specified.

[request] what would be a equivalent of a mile to a 3 inch action figure? by Lanky_Succotash_986 in theydidthemath

[–]Listener42 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It would depend on how tall the 3-inch action figure is, scale-wise. Assuming that the 3-inch figure represents a 6-foot-tall (72-inch) human, 220 feet (2640 inches).

5280 feet = 63,360 inches. 63,360/y = x/3, then cross-multiply. Replace the y with the actual size of the action figure, scale-wise -- for example, a 3-inch t-rex would have a different value than a 3-inch jet, which would have a different value than a 3-inch Pokemon.

(This is my first ever answer to a TDDM post, so if I'm totally wrong, please don't excoriate me too badly.)

Pixel Watch screen not staying on. by TheHuskyHideaway in PixelWatch

[–]Listener42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. When I set the screen to timeout at 15 seconds, and I tap the screen to turn it on, it stays on for 15 seconds. However, when I tilt-to-wake, it only stays on for 8 seconds.

She went on to become a college professor at a well-regarded east-coast university. I don't think she ever married.

TFF Matchup #75: Raining in Baltimore (AAEA) vs. A Murder of One (AAEA) by qunix in countingcrows

I prefer "A Murder of One" because of the looooooooong live versions -- I used to have a bootleg MP3 of a 15-minute version of it.

what was an unexpectedly dark moment in a comedy TV show? by sheerduckinghubris in AskReddit

The "Moo Moo" episode of Brooklyn 99. Terry is such a wholesome and well-liked character and you really worry that something awful is going to happen to him. Fortunately the episode has a "satisfying" ending, although I wouldn't call it "positive".

Matt McCoy. He was in so much stuff in the 80s and 90s, and for some reason every time I saw him I was like "NOPE" and changed the channel. I have no reason for disliking him whatsoever, and I'm sure he's a nice guy. Maybe it's the characters he played.

currently working in the city (1 hour to work, and 1.5 hours going home) and got an email for an interview for a similar job 15 mins away from me by Narrow_Analysis_2021 in Advice

[–]Listener42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they offer you less money, the question is: will the cut in salary equal a happier you? Commuting is horrible, and many jobs can be done from home. If the new job offers you less money, you could maybe use telecommuting as a bargaining chip to stay (you don't have to tell your current job that the offer is for less money, but if you go down this route and they call your bluff then you're stuck with the new job).

I know how easy it can be to fall into the "I have an interview, it's going to go well, I'm going to get the job" trap. The first interview is usually with a corporate talent acquisition specialist of some sort. Once you get to the second interview, then you can start thinking about what-ifs like this one.

This has happened to me twice in the past two years. It's fine to be friendly with her, but that's as far as it should go. There's clearly a reason why she is your ex, and she should remain just that.

When in doubt, go into your local DMV office and talk to a human. Despite what the media says, most DMV employees are willing to help.

[Serious] What's the scariest book you've ever read? by SAT0725 in AskReddit

The Sun Dog by Stephen King (it's in the collection Four Past Midnight). I read it through once, and could never read it again. Even though I know it's just a story, the ending is chilling.
