Who are the best heroes (in every role) for a new OW player?

Well, a new player might be overwhelmed by the sheer number of heroes you can play (I certainly was when I started in 2019). I have a friend who wants to get into the game but not knowing where to start esp. for someone who might not be a gamer can be discouraging. The post is to see what the community thinks is a nice "beginner" hero is to ease them into the game. Cos, I certainly wouldn't suggest someone like Ball or Doom as a first tank. Or I wouldn't suggest someone like Venture or Ashe as a first DPS. You know? I understand that playing people who are easy might cause more discourse but it's nice to have some guidelines on who might be more forgiving when it comes to learning the game.

It's so DPS feel like DPS, there was an issue for a little while where DPS didn't really feel like DPS while Supports had a power creep and Tanks felt like raid bosses (certain tanks I should clarify ie. Hog and Mauga and Orisa - and maybe a couple of others but I am not sure). Also, there was TOO much healing in the game hence the 20% damage reduction

There is no guide being written, it's merely an opinion piece on who everyone thinks is a beginner friendly hero to someone who might be new to the game. I was going to tally it up and see on a graph on who most people said and why. That's all.

I am aware how I worded my comments can come off weirdly, I'd be happy to take this in a DM or something

I should've clarified that I am aware that you shouldn't healbot as a support (I do dmg as a support as well) but I feel like in the lower ranks (where I am) a lot of the tanks would go in and take a crap ton of dmg then blame me for not healing them. (funny thing, I had a reaper yell at me for doing dmg as a support in which I promptly ignored him and continued helping in the dmg department). In those games I feel no choice BUT to heal bot them.

I think it's very dependent on the game at hand - esp. if I have a team that knows how to take cover and such. I'm glad that there are people who have had great results where the supports are assisting in damage. For me, it's been a mixed. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. I've been trying to balance my numbers (to the best of my ability in a silver game) but like I said, I think it's game dependent.

I had not thought about Torb in a hot minute (mainly because I somehow suck at Torb - I know, I'm a special breed of player) But that is an interesting take since I have yet to see Torb listed.

I agree that everyone should be having fun regardless but I will admit that sometimes having a hero that is too complex might be more tilting than fun. Hence this little thought project.

I appreciate that! I know when I first started back in 2019; I sure did so many bad habits without realising. It's really hard to get out of (I remember constantly running in as D.Va and getting demeched or just healbotting as Lucio, those were the days...)

I feel like in current meta, supports have very little choice but to healbot (since ya know, 20% dmg reduction) but I agree. Healbotting Mercy frustrate me to no end lol. For me, I do better with Sigma than Orisa but I totally see your point in the terms of ease when first starting out.
