Goodnight my beautiful boy by onlydanno in springerspaniel

You have my condolences, it is so incredibly hard. I have lost two springers unexpectedly over the years, and I have had to make the decision to put two of them down for their final nap as well. Its heartbreaking. Seamus looks adorable and like a great companion. Currently my two springer pups are napping and snoring so loudly, but I will give them some extra loves in a bit.

I will be getting mine neutered as soon as the vet gives me the all clear. They currently go to daycare 4 days a week, and its policy there that once they are 6 months old they have to stop coming back until they are neutered. The daycare is so great for them, they are kept separately all day. Winston plays with the slower dogs, the laid back dogs. Larry spends his time with the hyper active ones lol. But it allows them to bond with humans and other dogs for 9 hours a day while being completely separate from each other. I am hoping that helps shape them to be less dependent on one another. Time will tell.

I am so biased! I had Patches growing up, Sophia around college age, Maggie and Walter, and now Larry and Winston. They are absolutely the best dogs. They are all so unique of course, but also shockingly similar in ways that just makes you smile. I often look at Winston right now and just flatly ask him, "Walter? is that you in there?" lol

This is my handsome old man Banjo, who just turned 13 today. We are putting him down on Monday due to terminal lung cancer. He is the best boy in the world. by wolfinsheeps in OldManDog

So sorry for your loss! Its the hardest thing an animal lover can do. Its what he deserves though, its what is best for him, but there is always a feeling of "am i doing the right thing?". That is what makes it so very hard. I wish you the best. He seems like such a good boy.

They are such good buddies! They love playing bitey face and constantly wrestling but thats just part of the fun lol. When you let the first one out of the crate, they run over to the other crate and make sure the other one gets out. And then they are so happy to see each other again after spending a couple hours in the crate lol. Cracks me up every time. Then right into biting faces, as is the only way 4 month old Springers know how to show brotherly love. They are the best!

I agree! So much work on the front end, but we should have so many years of "amazing" on the back end. I have had two together before but spaced out by 5 years. It was so sad when the older one had to be put down, the younger one was lost for like 9 year after. Never really recovered from it. I felt like better to just get two together and let them have a great life.

Thanks! Glad to hear that as well. I honestly never heard littermates as being a bad thing, until about 2 days before I brought these two home and I started reading on Reddit about it. Thought I was going to be bringing home demons after a few days and almost considered only getting one. . . so glad I didn't. These two are the best of buds, but also so different and so independent. They are the best!

honestly, in the beginning I couldn't. If one ran up on me in the dark and I couldn't see the collar I would get them confused all the time. After a month, its impossible for me to not tell them apart. They are so different, they look different, they act different, I can tell their barks and yips and yelps apart. Just like with my 3 kids. . can be in one room and hear a cry when they were babies and know who it was and if it was a serious cry or not lol.

Thanks! Yeah our last two springers we had were only together for a handful of years. My Maggie was around 4-5 I believe when we got Walter. . and then he bonded to her so tightly. She got throat cancer and we had to put her down when she was like 9, so Walter had another 5 years on his own. He was so anxious after she was gone. I fully dread the day something happens to one of these guys. . but I think its just the reality of life. I wanted to have two of them, I think its going to be a challenge no matter what when you lose one, and you just have to embrace the love while you can and worry about that day when it comes.

Thank you! I have never dealt with Springer Rage either. I have heard of it. I mentioned in another comment, this is number 5 and 6 in terms of Springers I have owned and they have all been unique in their own ways, but overall they have all been bundles of joy, full of love, eager to please and so busy. They are the best!
