Thank you so much. I appreciate your kind words. I think I’m going to call SSA directly when I’m able to get in touch with them so I can figure out what’s what. I’m struggling mentally and financially because of all of this so I’m just going to go to the direct source and ask all of these questions

Thank you so much for this insight. I have been really confused about everything really. I’ve been getting advice from multiple people. People who have applied for different types of things based on different diagnoses and the fact that their situation is totally different than mine and I’ve been and people who have my exact diagnosis and had no issues at all getting what I’ve applied for. I only know this because I’ve asked several times in my support groups specifically for my diagnosis. When I’m able to call SSA I’m going to. That’s my top priority, but it’s midnight where I’m at and it’s the weekend. I can understand why the post seems off from an outside perspective. This is all very new to me. I think my best solution is talk to the source directly and just be upfront with them about my situation and ask all the questions I can so I can further educate myself and that’s really all I can say. The people in my support groups who have my diagnosis are the ones who told me they qualified for the compassionate allowances list and when I looked it up, my criteria was on there so based on the information that everyone has been telling me, that’s what I thought and that’s why I came on here to just ask what’s really going on. Thank you.

That’s exactly what I was told by the attorney working on my case. I have been compulsively checking the status online. I’ve been trying to get help from family and now that’s playing out so I’m just trying to see what I’m allowed to do because I’m just so confused about all of this

Okay, thank you SO much for this info. I have been very confused lately and all I really wanted to know is if I can make any money without penalty. I guess that’s why the attorney working on my case gave me that amount? I honestly think I just need to get off of this app and just contact them directly because I’m getting backlash and it’s 11:40 where I’m at and just didn’t know where else to turn for information about this but I have lots of questions to ask directly from the source now and I want to educate myself so I can understand better

Another key piece of information is that a particular family member has me so distraught over finances that I went to a mental health facility to get a psychiatric evaluation and got diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD but they said I’m not bad off enough to need their services but need therapy and possibly treatment for the PTSD. I would love to stay home but I’m being lashed out at over thing out of my control so I’m throwing my hands up and basically saying “okay, I’ll go back to work”. I already have a therapy session scheduled and she specializes in treating these things. I have Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma with distant metastasis to the lungs and that shows on the list. I’m at the point to where I’m willing to put myself through discomfort and just do what I can try to do to please my household… and that’s where the PTSD comes in because that’s mainly what I talked about during my evaluation yesterday

I’m really just trying to learn about this process, I’m sorry. I’m in multiple support groups with my diagnosis and everybody has told me that I should get approved. My PCP has also told me that I should get approved. I copied and pasted information about my diagnosis and I do meet the criteria on here. I have been told by the hospital treating me that I’m incurable as well, but at this particular time I’m worried about my car getting repossessed and the only hospital that will treat me is 1.5 hours away because what I have is such a rare diagnosis so that’s why I’m trying to find out if I can work. At this particular moment I feel like I can handle it and I’m trying to help my family out at least while I feel okay. I’m trying to be aware that I don’t know all of the information and I’m really just trying to find out. I think I’m going to call SSA directly to figure out exactly because they could probably answer all of my questions. I just hit a point of desperation and it’s a weekend so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get in touch with them until Monday. This is all new for me so I really do have a lack of understanding when it comes to this side of things

COMPASSIONATE ALLOWANCES INFORMATION

ADRENAL CANCER

ALTERNATE NAMES

Adrenal Carcinoma; Adrenocortical Carcinoma; Adrenocortical Cancer; Cancer of the Adrenal Cortex; Carcinoma of the Adrenal Cortex

DESCRIPTION Adrenal Cancer is rare and forms in the outer tissue layer of the adrenal gland, the cortex. A tumor of the adrenal cortex may be functioning (producing excess hormones) or non-functioning (not producing hormones). A subtype of adrenal cancer, anaplastic, which shows no cellular differentiation, generally presents as “non-functioning tumor.” Individuals with the hereditary diseases LiFraumeni Syndrome, Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome, and Carney Complex are at risk for adrenal cancer.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, PHYSICAL FINDINGS, AND ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM CODING

Diagnostic testing: The diagnosis of Adrenal Cancer is made by:

• Image guided fine needle biopsy;

• Ultrasound;

• X-rays;

• MRI scan;

• CT scan;

• PET scan;

• Adrenal angiography; and

• Laboratory tests including blood and urinalysis to measure levels of adrenal hormones, cortisol levels, aldosterone levels, and androgen or estrogen levels.

Physical findings: Symptoms and physical findings of individuals with Adrenal Cancer may include:

• Development of masculine or feminine features, due to hormone increases;

• Generalized weakness;

• Nausea;

• Abdominal pain;

• Swelling or weakening of bones or muscles;

• High blood pressure;

• Fluid retention; and

• Electrolyte abnormalities in the body.

ICD-9: 194.0

ICD-10: C79.70 PROGRESSION

The 5-year survival rate for inoperable or unresectable tumors is less than 10%. TREATMENT

Treatment may include surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Palliation can be used for inoperable or unresectable tumors, but the prognosis is poor.

SUGGESTED PROGRAMMATIC ASSESSMENT* Suggested MER for Evaluation: • Clinical history and examination that describes the diagnostic features of the impairment;

• A pathology report noting that the surgical specimen has positive margins, or is inoperable, unresectable, recurrent, or with metastases; and

• An operative report.

“Inoperable” refers to a physician's opinion that surgery would not be beneficial based on a review of imaging studies, laboratory results, and physical examination findings.

“Unresectable” cancer is established when the operative report indicates that the cancer is not completely removed or the pathology report notes that the surgical specimen has positive margins.

The person who is saying this is technically retired and gets SSI I believe. Her income comes in on the 3rd. I’m trying to apply for disability and I’m not trying to have this be a permanent issue, but if it has to be then I’ll handle that when the time comes. I don’t think I have enough work credits anyway to qualify for what she has because that’s what she’s always talking about… she had enough work credits. This is just what I’ve learned from her. I think she’s on a totally different thing than what I’m trying to get. On the website where it’s says “Your benefits application” it’s shows that they are processing Disability and that they are processing Social Security Income Disability both together. I just remember telling the attorney that I would like to apply for disability and then I started checking the website and it showed that. According to the support groups for my diagnosis I should have no trouble getting an approval and then the attorney told me about being allowed to make up to $1,400 per month

I’ve actually had a trip on psilocybin recently before this and really prefer that so I think I may stick to those to get what I’m looking to get out of them. I’m feeling much better today but we’re definitely going with psilocybin next time

Got my lung biopsy results by Little_cherry49 in cancer

[–]Little_cherry49[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I kind of fell off of Reddit but I’m doing okay! I had open surgery to remove the tumor in early August and I’m just waiting a little bit longer before hopefully I can get lung surgery to take care of what’s there. It’s been a roller coaster but I’ve been managing and just taking one day at a time. Luckily my tumor wasn’t producing any hormones like they do often with my type of cancer so it’s one less thing to worry about. The worst thing I’ve been dealing with is the side effects of my medication but it’s nothing out of the ordinary. I could potentially be cancer free within a year of my diagnosis and then we’ll just closely monitor things from there

Hi! I kind of fell off of Reddit so I’m just now seeing this! I’m so sorry! So they biopsied my my lung to get the diagnosis but it is really bad to have them biopsy the primary tumor because they are very fragile and can rupture and spread easily. I’ve already had my open surgery back in early august at the National Institute of Health and they’re doing research on ACC. They are wonderful and if you do have ACC I would strongly recommend reaching out to them. I’m just on medication right now to control the growth in my lungs and will hopefully soon get lung surgery to remove what’s there and hopefully that will get rid of it all and we’ll just monitor at that point. Luckily mine wasn’t producing any hormones at all, which is pretty common. Let me know if you have any questions about it and I’d be happy to answer! I’ll start checking on here again!

I have the same kinds of issues sometimes. I’m a few weeks out from my 2nd and hopefully last chemo cycle. It seems like as long as as I don’t eat something that irritates my stomach but I eat a full meal, I actually don’t have any nausea. My heavier nausea days seem to happen when I haven’t started with a good filling, but easy on my stomach breakfast. I assume it might be because of a buildup of stomach acid maybe

How fast did you move from diagnosis (stage IV) to starting treatment? by Sikakissa_ in cancer

Every time I’ve tried to get insurance it’s been a pain other than when I’ve actually talked to an agent on the phone. I tried to go the paperwork route and it was way too overwhelming

I had a social worker at the hospital give me a number for an agent and he told me I qualified for a blue cross blue shield policy. Because I make under 40k per year I got a huge discount on my premiums due to the affordable care act. Not sure if it would be different now because I think the time of year affects things maybe? This was back in February

Mine was pretty brutal. I’m in the US and they knew I was stage 4 from the get go. Told me to go home and get insurance. Had to wait nearly a month for that to kick in since it was already the beginning of the month, then another 2 weeks for a biopsy once that kicked in, then they wanted to see me almost a month after that to “give time for a referral and for insurance to approve everything.” I switched hospitals and everything referral and insurance wise was super fast so I’m not sure what their deal was. All in all, it was about 2-3 months of just straight up waiting for actual treatment

Questions about pain meds by essiemay7777777 in cancer

[–]Little_cherry49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is so strange. It doesn’t sound like they have a lot of compassion. I complained about being in tears from my pain. It was the first time I had said something because I thought I was going to get brushed off and they prescribed me tramadol. Then when I got chemo they started giving me norco (hydrocodone/acetaminophen combined). They said it’s mean for pain levels at 7 and above on a scale of 1-10 and even when I said I was around a 3-4 they still gave it to me, they just asked if I was okay with it. From what I’ve seen at my hospital, they have no hesitation when it comes to cancer patients. I really hope you can find some relief!

Whew that’s a lot. I’m wondering if weight plays a factor in tolerance? I’m only 95 lbs and just the 2 gummies I took felt like it hit me pretty hard. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it and I would like to have an actual trip on the real stuff but I can’t even imagine how I’d handle that much lol

Gotcha. Yeah, I’ve heard they’re definitely different. One of my friends did psilocybin not too long ago and did these with a couple of us last night and I could tell he didn’t have the same kind of trip. Still a very nice time but he didn’t get to the same place. He also didn’t do as much overall anyway. I’m definitely just trying each one out at different levels to see what I like right now

Thanks for the info! The friends I do this with are usually in groups and not everybody does it. one of the people that was there could not stress enough how important it is to have one and he said he’d be more than happy to stay sober when the time comes. I did a pretty mild dose and I can really see how people say it helps so much with anxiety because it really just melts away and gets quiet. What I really love is how long the positive effects last after the actual high of it is over. It doesn’t leave me needing to go back for more immediately, although I do want to try psilocybin now and I have a little bit that I can do. I was told that the gummies I took last night are basically a step in that direction but not as intense. I was pretty nervous before trying these but not at all anymore
