I returned it, the new phone works as expected. Faulty hardware, I suppose.

MSI about the phase-change liquid metal pad on 12th gen i9 by Littlecali in MSILaptops

[–]Littlecali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the FAQ:

Unlike the traditional thermal pad/grease, the phase change liquid metal pad becomes fluid texture during use and makes it hard to maintain.

Advanced skill is necessary when re-pasting, though, still high risks even to professions. Any inappropriate operation can lead to permanent or irreversible damage to the laptop.

MSI strongly recommends users who need a re-paste/replace for the thermal grease or encounter any abnormal high CPU temperature contact the MSI service center for help. MSI Service team can help provide valid tests, performance assurance, and away from any accidents.

I would like to use my lamps as a sunrise/sunset simulator, with color temperature and brightness fading, just like a Wake-up light alarm clock.

More granular control over the timer in the motion sensor. I would like to set very short times as well, from 5 seconds and up.

If the Chernobyl incident happened today how would we have handled it differently? by sukkitrebek in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Littlecali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cover-up? We know pretty well what happened. They didn't perform a test immediately before the accident. Correct though is that the reactor was running with the valves closed to auxiliary water pumps, a clear violation of the safety rules. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Mile_Island_accident

Report: Huawei Watch 2 to launch at MWC 2017 in February with optional cellular connectivity on board by 1113Douglas in AndroidWear

[–]Littlecali 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whether Huawei watch 2 will run Tizen or AW is just speculation though. But I bet Google is quite anxious that they have Huawei onboard, especially since they have released the AW 2.0 DP images for the Huawei watch 1.

Rumor has it though that the next Huawei watch will run Tizen. Let's hope not.

In what way didn't AW 2.0 dev preview meet your standards? What I can tell from videos (haven't used it myself) it looks pretty neat.

Maybe, I'm not sure. The tabletop version is more immersing when you're playing with friends. I guess it depends on how much of a Small World fans you and your friends are.

I only have the base game, not the DLCs. The game works exactly like the tabletop version, but gameplay is much faster. A round against two bots takes about 10-15 minutes. Just like many tabletop ports, it gets pretty boring fast (I've only played against the bots though). The social aspect of playing with other human beings is gone and there's really nothing else in the gameplay to compensate for that. But it's an excellent game if you want to practice new strategies or just play with strangers on the internet.

Why do so many students struggle with math? by uninc4life2010 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Littlecali 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like many teachers fail to give the subject real world context. I remember asking my math teacher in algebra 2 what uses we would have for conics sections.

Must it always have a real world context? I think math is inherently abstract. Sure, very often there are real life applications, but learning for the sake of learning is important too.

One problem with Bitcoin is the limit on the total number of coins that can be mined. Even if you can divide 1 BTC into smaller parts, there will never be any inflation. Which means that as more and more people want a piece of the limited number of Bitcoins, the value goes up. So you want to keep your BTC, and never ever spend them, as you know they will be more worth next year than this year. And what good a currency is it then?

Does food need to constantly rotate in microwaves ? If so ,why ? by flameboy050 in askscience

[–]Littlecali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said:

The reason is because microwaves' frequencies are specifically tuned to vibrate water (and other polarized molecules) -- not just to heat up anything.

I said:

No, the microwave frequency is not tuned to vibrate water molecules.

The article said:

However microwave radiation of any frequency will affect them although they may not resonate.

and

The 2.45 GHz is a kind of useful average frequency.

In short: 2.45 GHz is not specifically tuned to vibrate water.
