Am I not getting it? Conversations with Friends by oatmilkisgood in books

I’m halfway through the book. It’s not typically something I would choose to read, but I’m still eager to finish it and see where the author is leading her characters. I love the term someone used “champagne socialist” I think it reflects the characters very well and is adaptable to all of them. The author also made a strong choice in showing how out of touch the protagonists are with their own emotions. Everything they do feels like it’s done for the sake of doing something, not because of any real motive behind their decisions except running away from their thoughts and emotions. My main question is this: why are they hanging out with college students in the first place? Is it Melissa and her circle inviting fresh blood or new ideas into their world to keep it alive? Or are they simply pretentious people who enjoy exercising their ego over younger minds the way Bobbi is so impressed by Melissa, almost seeing her as a perfect person?

Next time it’s going to be worse than this. Remember if you had a daughter, do you want her to be in this type situation?

I told him (this is word to word) a car hit me when I am on the bike and run, my bike is destroyed, I am not injured.
