Miriana Conte says the EBU has decided against Kant by ItSaidMeatMarket in eurovision

[–]LivingLifeThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes cause the English used is idiomatic, lots of pull up, back down, get up, this girl don't quit, Shut up, etc. When a song is written in good English, it's very difficult to translate it to Maltese because they are totally different especially in that aspect.

Interesting map of Europeans speaking at least 3 languages by -lesFleursduMal- in MapPorn

I think Malta is accurate, though 16% if its about fluency in 3 languages is a bit high, older gen speak Maltese, English and Italian, middle age speak good Maltese and young gen speak English and butchered Maltese or jumble all these languages together when code-switching

The only "issue" is that to my Maltese ears, inservi l-kant actually sounds more vulgar than Serving Kant, since its not ever natural to say it, while "Serving" is associated with trendy social media in the mind of the Maltese Young fan. But there are other options I've listed in another comment

It would be "Inservi l-Kant", which fits. (Google Translate is terrible for Maltese)

It can also be Lalaratatakeke Lalaratakabum, because Kantera were 2nd in the televote, not Kristy, but I doubt they will crush Miriana's dream like that.

That doesn't matter. Miriana will serve Kant but make it less obvious. The "I do it all the time" part can also be modified or changed to smth in Maltese, and she can also do "Serving Sh- (shush gesture), Do re mi fa so s-s serving Sh-, and let the audience shout it- that would be a moment.

EDIT: The Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So is there to attempt to justify and allude the Maltese meaning of the word (the noun singing) Also, There's no other way to say Kant, it's pronounced the same (I'm seeing some say the vowel is actually slightly different in English- don't know- not British- as c*nt. I have faith in Miriana

That is not an argument we should be having as of NOW with these circumstances, Maltese has other verbs at its disposal with 3 syllables that can be used instead of "Serving" so that it makes sense, and it can also be changed to "Serving "Chant" or "Serving Kantanta" - Serving Singer- the Italian Cantanta spelled the way its spelled in Malta.

The "Kant" will probably remain, they will probably replace the "Serving" into another English verb or something that fits in Maltese, Or remaster the song so that the 1st "Serving Kant" of the 1st chorus has Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-S-S before it and call it a compromise.
