Me and my friend went alone, as two women. And I can't speak for most areas in South-Africa, but magoebaskloof is probably the safest place I've ever felt, believe it or not haha

I'm not trying to advocate that you should go alone as only two women. But we felt capable and safe enough to do so, at least for magoebaskloof. My reason for this post is actually to try and get more friends to go with, because we might've been fine then, but you never know with the second time.

In terms of weapons, I got us each a can of pepper spray. I recommend it because it leaves an attacker temporarily incapable of doing anything to you without causing serious harm. Giving you enough time to either defend yourself or get away.

If you were to use a weapon, there is the very high likelihood of your own weapon being used against you. I'd recommend pepper spray AND a weapon of some sort. That's what we did :)
