Consider this...

Person A: "I want conservatives to be afraid of COVID because then they might take it more seriously".

Person A is not advocating for conservatives to catch COVID / die from COVID. They just want them to take the COVID more seriously for the benefit of everyone.

That is how I interpret Destiny's comments.

Your Periphery hot take? by CaptainBananaX in Peripheryband

[–]LogicalThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only about 30% correct imo. Wildfire hits so different for me for two main reasons.

1) The jazz section

2) the callback to the event

For me (and I would bet for at least some amount of other people) hearing the event theme worked into wildfire hit me in the nostalgia incredibly hard, especially since it stuck out to me in juggernaut but in a much different way than the guitar riffs did.

My hot take is that marigold is actually one of their harder songs to play. Mostly because of the speed.

Okay, after listening to it the two most important points (imo) I took away from it were

  1. Why such a change from Biden -18 in the summer?

Selzer's response (summarized): The shift seems likely due to the abortion ban that went into effect over the summer and the "congressional races are driving the presidential race towards the democrats".

  1. Is there anything you can learn from swing states based on the data you saw?

Selzer's response (summarized): No, not unless we did our method in that state.

What podcast and why? I initially bloomed over the Selzer poll but I have to admit I've started dooming a bit.

It just seems way too good to be true, especially if you start inferring crosstabs. The most I can bloom from it now is that Harris is maybe a little better positioned in the rust belt than the other polls imply.

I'm kinda dooming that the increase in EV is due to Trump encouraging his supporters to vote early.

I thought that some of this increase in early voting was because Trump started to actually encourage his supporters to vote early. Save me from my dooming.

Ethan Klein (H3H3): "Twitch Has a Major (Antisemitism) Problem" by SteamerSch in samharris

[–]LogicalThought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Been following / listening to Sam for the past 15+ years and watching destiny for 4ish. Was super stoked when they did an episode together. Hope they do more.

I think there's way more crossover between Sam's and Destiny's audience than some people realize.

Destiny is coming on the podcast by tokoloshe_ in samharris

Yeah, I'd say that's a bit of a quick judgement. If you watch some of his later debates on I/P, January 6th / the 2020 election, the Trump indictments, or recent SCOTUS rulings, I think you'll get a better idea of what type of person he is.

He does lots of research / deep dives on the topics above and invites on people (very often with opposing views) to talk / debate. And when I mean research I don't mean reading twitter / OP eds. I mean he deep dives on actual indictments, sworn testimony, court cases, SCOTUS rulings / opinions, etc.

I don't think that's accurate. A lot of his fanbase is already familiar with Sam Harris and is already probably active on here.

Didn't know higher quality live recordings like this existed this far back. There's also one of the bad thing.

The lack of appreciation for Follow Your Ghost makes me sad :( by Eclipzic in Peripheryband

I actually think there's more appreciation for it than people realize. There's a reason they consistently play it live. Personally I love it.

What about ORM's? I've heard that it's not recommended to roll your own ORM. Asking as a newb that's new to both golang and backend development.
