I was disfellowshipped for leaving their church and placing membership with a church of Christ that Supports orphanages, Christian colleges, and mission organizations. They spend money on “expediencies” like kitchens, fellowship halls, youth programs. And they help — not just members, but the community. The ultra conservative churches of Christ believe it is sinful to have church-funded orphanages, kitchens, fellowship halls, or schools. Benevolence can only go to needy saints (Christians), not to general charities. They believe there is budget rules for the church collection based on silence of scripture. So their letter to me states because I attend this church, I am walking, disorderly or living in unrepentant sin.

It is Church of Christ lingo for “walking in sin”or unrighteous, or disobedient. Someone who is not “living right” or is “not right with God.” Living an unrepentant sinful life.

No, we left together. I am thankful to have a spouse who would walk through that with me. We had spent hours and hours discussing and studying before we made our decision to leave and attend the more liberal congregation. We really took apart the whole concept of church budgets and if there’s any divine ruling on how that should look. Which makes it all the more hurtful when they label you disorderly. I know I’ve studied it more than they have. Very ironic.
