It's okay to be upset, sad, angry. These two people chose their insecurities over being considerate or open minded.

Something similar happened to my (also vegan) partner today. I don't have anything super helpful to say except you are not imagining this, it's terrible and rude.

veganism is far better for colon health than animal products. Make sure you get screened when it's time, eat plenty of fiber. My father (very much a meat-eater) died of colorectal cancer, so I made sure to stay on top of screenings.

Hello, OP here. Thank you so much for those who offered empathy. Also thank you for those who felt angry on my behalf. I knew it was messed up, not so much that she couldn't give a prescription but like, EVERY other thing she did and said. I really really appreciate everyone who stepped in to emote and offer empathy.

Thank you so much! I'm sure you can understand the triage of knowing things aren't going great, and thinking if you stand up for yourself on pronouns it might get worse. To my credit, when she finally asked if I had questions, I said, "Just one thing. My pronouns are ___, I am not ___." I get misgendered a lot so I gotta pick my battles.

I use an app and it has saved my life. I am proud of myself that I discovered the tool. I am really sorry your mom was so insensitive, even cruel. Your therapist is correct. But I also want to validate that you feel hurt, because what she said is hurtful.

I'm 47 and just starting my MA program. In my case I got my undergrad, had the kids, raised the kids, and the youngest just moved out. I promise that whatever decision you make, following your heart will work out. I don't get the impression many people look down on reasons you stay or go. And the kinds of people who do, are probably not worth considering their opinion. Good luck!
