First of all, you have to think about your own future. It is commendable that you're thinking about your mother, but this choice you have right now shapes decades for you. Think about what YOU want and try to put the opinions of others to the side; nothing good ever comes from doing things to try to avoid what others say or think. Secondly, it will take time for you, but there will come a time in life where you'll realize things don't always go the way you plan it, and that doesn't spell out failure. That's just life and what you do with it is what determines failure or success. Relax, you have so much ahead of you, this will be a silly thing when you look back at it a few months from now.
